I love watching someone else grinding. I’ve been doing it for 30 years and learn something every time watching someone else grind

I learned on a very old VanNorman grinder. The counter weights were bolted on, there were different sizes that had to be stacked to balance the offset. Then we got a newer '1955' VanNorman with the counter weights on a slide. Still dialed in the rod journals with a brass hammer. Spent 28 years in a machine shop it's been 12 years and watching this brought back a lot of memories.

I couldn't imagine how you'd machine the connecting-rod journals, with it being offset from the centerline and all. Then i saw the chuck offset tool - that's amazing. Must be **hell** to get dialed in on both ends.

The mating journals are side x side on the same pin. I know what you meant tho. On a counter rotating crank the oiling holes are in the wrong spot as the oil would hit after the power stroke. Cross drilling the mains would be imperative in this application.

I thought you around the rods before the Maine's the mange is the one that turns in the block

Is there a way to tighten the tailstock, won't grind a round journel
@LakelandAutoMarine2 жыл бұрын
That's are to say. I'd start with a precision bar assuming you have a chuck machine and fine out if it's out in the same spot.

Different Strokes different folks I would use the right wheel and I never plunge 2-0 this can create a seam personally I use 1/10 gauge I ran a 15 a special they are a good machine strictly Automotive grinding 3516 caterpillar like that and you'll be buying the customer a new crankshaft my goal is zero taper round no Burns or interruptions from Rod cheek to radius I am a heavy engine component Machinist I did Automotive my first 20 years found that diesel was more challenging and paid a lot better that crankshaft you're grinding is worth about $100 I grind crankshaft that cost $90,000 I don't miss size and when I'm done I want 10 guys to Mike that crankshaft there's only one way the right way

Steady rest on the uncut side of the journal?? I would never do it that way! And cutting all the radis off ! Not good
