We're setting up Drag Chains for the crappie boat to help slow the boat in high winds and stabilize the rear from swinging so bad. Here is our Setup for Livescope fishing!!!

After you finish with your boat would you consider making a video or videos of how you make your wire cat fish traps

Planning on that this summer after we take our hoop nets up. Not sure I'll have time till then. Lots of requests for it, so it's gonna happen!!

Now that’s a good idea there Bradley. Be sure and show us how it turns out.

I've had a terribly busy weekend, but we fished them Saturday. I'll probably never fish scope again without them in the boat. Made a huge difference. I'm gonna try to get some video footage this week using them

Thanks would like to see a video of you using them
@godscountryhuntingfishing16389 ай бұрын
@hbhouston2 I'll have to do an inclusion in the next crappie video. They work well, but best where not a lot of timber

Do you think drift socks would work better ? Just trying to slow how fast my boat will drift but still be able to troll around an scope roaming fish without flying past lol
@godscountryhuntingfishing16389 ай бұрын
@hbhouston2 no, because they would kill ability to move when needed. Chains don't.

That's a good idea. I use a drift sock 6' back in windy conditions or while anchored in the river. If I forget to load it when it's hanging to dry I'll use my anchor rope and chain bucket on a 12' rope. Drilled 1/2" holes all around it and on the bottom.

I've never tried a drift sock, but I can tell you for sure I was impressed by how well the chains worked and I maintained mobility. I was able to use scope and catch fish with the wind and sideways to the wind. That's nearly impossible usually if that wind picks up. I caught fish like that with around 10 mph winds

@@godscountryhuntingfishing1638 I'm going to try it on lakes and bays. I was just moving chain around today that was in the way while doing something else. Story about a G3 18'. Was running a General Contractor company for the owner. He had a 17' steel jon type of boat with a side console like a bass boat. Had a 70 Mariner that ran good but he said he'd been looking at the 90 Yamaha online. Had me bring a couple of boys over and we pulled the 70 while he went after a 90. Pulled in 2 hours later with the 90 on a new G3 exactly like yours, on a new trailer. Told him he could of laid 2 old tires in the bed, didn't have to buy the entire setup to get the 90 home. Said the price of the 90 alone, everything else was nearly free anyway. 20 hours later he was sea sponge dab camoing it-usually did the spray spot and plant stencils. Nice boats.

i use a similar setup for river fishing to slow down my drift and keep my boat pointed in one direction.
@godscountryhuntingfishing16383 ай бұрын
Yes sir, it works for that also!!

You were concerned about the rope catching on your transducer. What if you cut a piece of a pool noodle about 6” or so and slide your rope through it. All your knots should slide through the middle. If you do get a little slack in the line, maybe it will hold it up and away from the transducer. Just a thought.

Good idea, but we didn't have any trouble at all on the trial run. We fished them down for about 9 hours Saturday making all sorts of maneuvers. No problems other than 1 trot line. Once I pulled it up, it bounced right over that too. The rope for the most part stays straight down. You want only the chain dragging on bottom. Basically no slack rope

I have used old window weights for drags also to slow the boat down.
@godscountryhuntingfishing1638 Жыл бұрын
Window weights would work great on clean bottom. Saturday I fished a lake that was full of structure. Them chains went right over tree tops. I think window weights would have hung up for sure. I'll try shooting a video using them soon

You fish into the wind with chains or with the wind?
@godscountryhuntingfishing16382 ай бұрын
Either

I like the control The chains give - but I cannot keep a trolling Motor battery charged over 4 hours .
@godscountryhuntingfishing1638 Жыл бұрын
Only option there is to go to a higher grade battery. I run a 24v system and don't have any issues. That said, I mainly use the chains now when I'm fishing with the wind across big flats. If I turn into the wind I simply pull them up and set them on deck

Works great, just haven't filmed using them yet. Fished with them Saturday and can tell ya they will stay in my boat!!
