One of the things that they did in crash 4 was that every stage was possible to beat once you got there, or in other words, don’t put a yellow gem platform before you’ve actually unlocked the gem.

Before anyone asks, no you can't play these levels right now. They are demos of the kind of thing I might do if I did attempt a full Crash 1 remake but primarily this is just stuff I've been making while testing and improving my level editor. I made some of these levels like 3 months ago and the editor has changed so much since then that even I can't play them anymore - and even if I could, none of these levels have proper collision, cameras, audio or anything. All of them break completely if you die at any point, and because they are so unfinished it took me hundreds of attempts to get some of this footage. Upstream alone took me 6 and a half hours to beat. That's why there's occasionally weird stuff like framerate drops and the camera clipping through the scenery, that doesn't normally happen but when I've spent hours trying to finish a level I'm not gonna restart because of minor glitches like that. Obviously doing a full remake would be a huge project that would take forever so it would be a long time before I would have any final levels ready to share, so I am considering maybe trying to turn one of these into something that's actually playable to release as a demo alongside the level editor but doing that for all of them would take months so I'd rather spend that time finishing the editor, and then making some real levels that won't be a horrible nightmare to get working. I am going to make another video about this with commentary soon so I can explain stuff properly because there's a lot to talk about with this but just wanted to address that particular question before everyone starts shouting at me for not having these levels uploaded anywhere yet x

My mouth dropped. This is the most amazing stuff I seen in a very long time... And I do get the level of effort you're putting into this. I subscribed and will be seeing anything you upload, but I have one minor criticism for you to take into consideration: some of the levels seem just too hard. The very first one for example, when you're running away from the scientists. You cannot see what comes ahead so it's going to be a nightmare for your future players. Maybe you should try put some more checkpoints or offer more hints by leaving Wumpa Fruits in some key parts. That'd be sweet! But I loved how you made N. Sanity Beach something like open world, and the same for the tribe town. I was absolutely amazing, and beautiful, so much that I felt we didn't need Crash 4 as long as we have someone like you making these thind of stages. It was very interesting to see you didn't achieve 100% in most levels. I was left wondering what else was there... Oh and, having N. Brio chasing you was super cool, and I don't think it spoils anything. On the contrary, if you never played the game, you'd be wondering about who that monster is, only to find out later. And the rock, chasing you in so many ways... In all seriousness, I think you should keep making these levels, if only because by doing them you prove you're better than the whole team behind this game. I mean, they added an original level, right? And it wasn't like any of this stuff. I think you have an enourmous talent for this, and if you continue, something good might await you in the future. Maybe you end up inspiring Crash 5? Maybe you get a job offer? At least, I think you should be getting a lot of views, subscribers and prestige, so, please, keep working on this, regardless of the difficulties. I think it's worth it.

The Brio chase sequence was an initial idea for Crash 1, but was not implemented due to it being too difficult. I heard one of the devs talk about it, that after beating Brio initially, a door would open up that Crash would go through, and Brio would chase you in Hulk form.

Writing out some of my thoughts as I'm watching this. Level 1: Thoroughly enjoyed the concept of the first level being an escape from Cortex's lab. Didn't know I needed this Level 2: The wall of nitro at the start of the level (3:42) seems out of place for one of the initial levels but I found the direction you took the rest of the level in to be both refreshing and nostalgic. One "error" (for lack of a better word) that I noticed was the speed of the death path panel while it's returning Crash back to the start of the forking paths (6:35). If you truly were to go ahead with the development of this game, I think many would agree that it should be sped up a little more so it doesn't feel as if that section is dragging on. I did find the crouching to the rhythm of the background music to be an amusing touch though. Level 3: Had no idea what I wanted to say about this level until I reached the boulder section (16:02). I was already impressed by the design and the development of more complex platforming but MAN did that boulder excite me. I'm an enjoyer of the Crash dash type levels. Also, combining the original third and fourth original levels into one, incredible. Big hype. Level 4: Actually gasped when I saw the jet board (17:53). Seconds before I even saw it I was thinking about how fun it would be if it was integrated into the level and then it appeared. Also, I'm not too familiar with the remastered versions so I'm not sure if this concept was created by those devs, but the TNT detonator crate (17:57) was a nice touch. I especially loved the camera angle change when Crash spun the detonator in the death path (19:20). Level 5: I couldn't recall what the 5th level of the original game was but I assumed your iteration was more OC since you used the Turtle Woods music. Absolutely loved the design and platforming in this one. I especially enjoyed the bit where the camera zoomed out temporarily while you made your way over to the waterfall before going behind it (26:01). Overall, the thought behind this, in my opinion, was genius. I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I commend you for your hard work and can only hope that there is a playable demo. This is my first time seeing your channel so I'm unaware if any progressions were made to this exhibition. Finally, I apologize for the length of this comment but thank you to anyone who was willing to read it to the end. Excellent job ARD, I look forward to seeing what more your channel has to offer. TL;DR: Review written by someone who has way too much time on their hands and a certain love for the Crash series. This concept video presents incredible designs that evoke nostalgia in the enjoyers of the classic big three Crash games while also presenting a newness that keeps both old and new players excited.
@johnfernow4 жыл бұрын
I'd definitely love to see this project developed on after you finish the level editor. Many people can create fun levels to speedrun in Mario Maker, but often their designs are much worse than the levels Nintendo makes (the layout often makes no sense outside of the fact it's a videogame.) But your levels are really well designed -- they don't just look fun, they're also aesthetically pleasing -- and I'd love to see this project completed some day, even if it is years from now. I love the continuity between the levels and how you take new, unique approaches to classic levels. It looks like a real, Naughty Dog styled Crash game, but without some of the limitations of the PS1 (or at least the limits of what the devs were able to do with it in 1996 given the development time frame.)
@jasonblake39762 ай бұрын
I very frequently come back to this video just to bask in the astounding creativity. It’s surreal seeing how you have altered these levels…it feels like a fever dream. Even though this is building on an already established game, there is such originality in how you have expanded these levels and added opportunities for backtracking (such as the TNT crates beneath the column and the cannon). If anything, I think you should submit this to Toys for Bob and be brought on as a level designer for the next Crash game. Regardless, love your work!

Don't get me wrong, I love It's About Time, but this is kind of more what I was expecting. A more difficult Crash Bandicoot without being sadistically so (I know one or two boxes missing because you need a gem to get them is a little mean, but at least every box is obvious and/or in plain sight). This has the same distanced camera and creativity of Crash 4 but it feels traditional to the original trilogy as well (even sans the same enemies and music; replace those and I'm sure it'll feel the same way). To actually control Crash as he runs out of the lab is such a 2010-2020 video game concept: like zipping from the cut scene to game play. Feeling like you're a part of the movie. Love it.

ARD - Wow 😳 So many good things to say about this! First, you have made great use of the assets, including utilising many of them in new ways e.g. the Big TNT Bomb Crate in the ‘ Upstream ‘ level. The most appealing thing to me is that you have maintained a sense of ‘ story/journey ‘ better than I got with Naughty Dog or Vicarious Visions, as you have created an original ‘ Lab Escape ‘ level to open, then logically progress through all the locations as Crash encounters them (I could go on a bit, but this comment is already long!) I also deeply appreciate the realised version of the Cliff and Waterfall cut levels as a single finished project. In closing, I am intrigued to see what a finalised project would provide 😊 (I would certainly be challenged by your ‘ ARD mode levels ‘ too, as the precision required is really ‘ testing ‘ 😅)

@ödīñ ŵïlšøń In terms of game design like the boulder part where it's chasing you around corners doesn't make sense, some sections in this are modded just to be modded but doesn't make any sense behind how it's supposed to work

Very cool but thats a pretty hard first level. The one where hes escaping the castle lol. Might need a couple levels before that for a tutorial

Wow, man. You've got some level design chops on you! I'm legit impressed by how the extra paths tie back into the main path to get access to extra goodies. Cracking idea! Even using some settings a bit more, like the Castle Cortex Lab for a chase sequence! Brilliant! It immerses you a bit more, I feel. Also, seeing the Evolvo-Ray lingering in the distance is a chilling image. I've always thought _Crash 1_ reimagined with the same visual basic through-line, i.e. jungles, temples, industrial/castle, but with more path branches and a little more emphasis on some background storytelling with hints as to what Cortex's bigger plans are. This would be where I'd start. XD Sweet job, man!

@@Iblis00 Charming. -_- I do, actually. As do many people who make games with a plot.

@@Iblis00 Right, but no need to say it so glibly. Besides, _Crash 1_ is still loaded with it. Little bits you can infer and such.

Using CTR NF for the death routes, i applaud. 6:43 I was smiling while you were doing that. Overall, pretty nice concept and execution, i'd like to see more of it.

Amazing open world feel and truly genius level architecture! As a original-crash diehard i can safely say you have given the levels an amazing new style without being untrue to the first trilogy. Each levels tells a story by itsself without long and kinda boring cutscenes like crash 4. in fact id rather pay double the price to play them than crash 4. please do something to make these public/playable!!! Great work!

Holy shit that first level would be way too difficult. At least put in some checkpoints. And it couldn't be the first level of the first game

Good thinking, I would like "reimagined" mode to be like sonic mania's encore mode where it's a harder version after clearing the game.

I love the depth and designs of the levels here! I'm seeing a bit of Crash 3 and 4 influence here... And I LOVE IT!
