Did you know you could have used the wall to complete your boxes? :) That's how I won most of my games with the colored walls... It's one of the secret perks of this game. ;)

***** The wall behaves like other squares which you can't jump on but can use to complete boxes. Cortex does it at 1:58

Good point there, with coloured walls You can do minimum fast 4 points. With speedy boots it can do many points in short amount of time, and of course less chance that one of the opponents steps on Your colour :)

No, I've seen my friend scoring 56, that's incredibile, though he was very lucky back then with that. Plus there's a screenshot at Bandipedia of someone scoring 61, you cannot top that. There are 64 squares, but 3 of them will not be colored because the other three players will be standing on one space each.

Well, in 3rd zone pogo painting my friend was able to get 61 or 64, not sure now, because he Went full square and got box on the end, thus making the 8x8 complete

Recently got an emulator so I could play these games again till I find hard copies for my ps1 that I bought the other week and there's so many memories that came with just playing them again... I don't know about you but at the start I found it super hard to get back into how the games work.
