When you’re on the verge of a stall and you deflect the ailerons, the plane will usually snap roll in the opposite direction. The aileron that goes down to lift that side of the wing increases the angle of attack and drag, causing it to stall first and also pull the plane to that side. The plane was so small in the video that I couldn’t really tell what happened, but it didn’t seem to have much power or speed during the takeoff..

Dude! Only other thing would be a stall in the turn beside aileron failure. But it looked like you had plenty of speed compared to your first flight. I'm an older jet pilot but never had a crash of my jets. My prop planes, yes! I stalled 2 of them. So I can imagine the pain of losing that beautiful bird. You would love to fly where I flew, on the dry lake bed of El Mirage in Adelanto, CA. Tons of just runway everywhere. Now I live in Orange County with ZERO runway anywhere and don't fly :(

Based on the lower tone of EDF, visual speed, and what it did, he was definitely not flying fast enough for a plane with that high wing loading. 12 lbs in that little thing.

Nooo 😭 Sorry man! I agree with @txkflier in his remarks below - it definitely was an accelerated stall. Next jet you get with a higher wing loading, we'd suggest taking it up nice and high and purposely loading up the wing in a high bank turn while slow. Let it snap over and work on recoveries. Too long to type out full thoughts on how to practice this here but practicing upset recoveries will help prevent it again. Unfortunate loss but a great learning experience, nonetheless. Keep on flyin'!

Agree. As he said in his maiden flight video, "it flies better at 75% throttle".. a 12 lb plane with a wing area that small needs to be moving fast to pull through turns.

Sorry to see this Che. With any luck the bulk of the cost is still usable. The airframe itself is only a small portion of that $2000 cost. If the retracts, servos, ESC, fan unit, etc is still in working order then this isn’t as bad a loss as it seems at face value.

Hi sorry for that loss... I was flying the black horse l-39 plane 1 year until I sold it... for me it was definitely an tipstall. the this model has to be flown in wide curves, caused from her span an weight. and when this occur you have only small chance to get the control back. that needs fast reaction close over the ground. as a Tipp the viperjet is much more stable. greetings

Hi Hamilton I have the same plane with a KingTech K45-G2. Yesterday I had exactly the same happening but on a left turn. Frustrated like you I don’t know what the real cause was. I had 10 flights beautiful and without any problems. Did you research in the meantime what it could have been? Actually my crashed plane looks the same.
@raglan00153 жыл бұрын
Sad to see such a nice aircraft go in. I must admit it looked very underpowered on take off and throttling back after takeoff would have reduced the speed even more which makes me think its a simple stall. The speed didn't seem to be building that well, also when did you raise the flaps, that could have been the final straw in making the wing stall. It's always a bummer not knowing the exact cause of the crash.

Im shaking my head. First Im sorry for the loss of that beautiful plane. Second I tend to agree with your assessment of surface failure based on the slow spiral aileron role to the left. I feel your pain mate, I rolled my Savex L-39 (Wren 44i turbine) onto it's back after 5-flights. It was my first turbine jet. It was my fault, I turned upwind onto my landing leg and wind shear just took her out of the sky (too slow with the wind at my back). It wasn't unlike your L-39 crash. Anyway, 3-years later I have another Savex L-39 with the same turbine in it (airframe was a total write-off) and she has nearly 100 flights and around 10 hours of flight time on her now. Nothing good ever comes easy. Keep up the videos and the content, love it that you're in the hobby ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My heart goes out to those two brave pilots. 💔 my son crashed 3 - $500 planes in one day , that was my biggest rc financial loss 📉 😢 .. he was only 10 years old at the time . He's almost 30 now lol and I don't miss the money 🤣 because those memories that surround those days last a lifetime. Successes and failures. It's all good 👍 you were right when you said , ( you knew the risks ) flying is so different from rc boats or trucks , they are operating in two dimensions. It's that 3rd dimension that is so risky . That's why we get that shake in our knees and our heart rate races and why we love it so much . Not everyone can do it . I'm teaching my grandkids now . My 9 year old is getting it now . He felt that rush yesterday. On the simulator 10 Successful challenge flights . He was so proud of himself. I believe he could fly my slow stick right now . But going to take him up on the buddy cord a few times first . Let the memories begin lol 😆...

I am not pilot, but jets need speed. And if you start turning in low speed - its finish, your last chance is only big altitude for reclaiming control. Only single moment, when you can fly with jets in low speed is on center (+ flaps if extreme slow). Plane as L39 forgive you to much fails - thats why is training jet - i think oblivion flaps, but never time low speed turning. This applies to everyone jets. If drag plane construct to extreme speed (super fighters), they need to much speed to turning and they are much more susceptible low speed mistakes. I am from czech republic, live 30km next to Aero Vodochody, fabrication of L39. It hurts, when i see ours planes destroyed. Good luck bro. Here we say: You learn from mistakes, the main thing is to admit them.

Such a bummer man. People can say crashing is part of the hobby, but it still hurts. Lost dollars, lost time building. It hurts your confidence... I don't fly jets, but I'm literally just starting to fly with an on-board camera pointing towards the back of the plane. I'm working on a better mounting system than just using velcro. Besides the cool factor of watching flights, my eventual hope is that I can use it as a troubleshooting tool if I lose a plane. Was it me or the plane...

@jasonmeadows70083 жыл бұрын
Don Atkins, that was just a bird flying by. I thought the same at first but after many times watching the video this is a case of a stall. Read my other comment for the full assessment. Like others have said, it’s almost a relief knowing he stalled the plane, because that means his building skills are good, and his radio system is fine etc. Now he doesn’t have to wonder what will go wrong whenever he goes to fly something else. Just don’t get slow!

So sorry mate, that's absolutely terrible! I've been watching the build of this and was excited for you jumping into something big and your enthusiasm for it. Did you ever figure out what happened? Did you feel something change suddenly in the air? Anyway, the maiden flight was perfect, sorry this went down.
@jasonmeadows70083 жыл бұрын
Che, first off I’m sorry to see your bird you worked so hard on end up like this. It’s hard to know what happened exactly without being there, however as a full time-full scale flight instructor and avid RC guy I’ve watched the video back to back probably 100 times. Take it for what you want and it’s not meant to be a jabb at anyone but more so just a helpful, “this is what I see” assessment. We all learn from our mistakes and I’ve had my fair share of mistakes myself. Anyway, what I see in the video is a uncoordinated stall. Throughout the turn the plane looks to be climbing with the nose raised as it should. However near the completion of that turn, I hear the power come back but the nose never looks to be lowered. I can see the plane lose speed quite quickly and stall. Being that you were in a right turn, your left wing is creating more lift and therefore more drag than the right wing. Once it stalled it tried to roll over to the left and and dropped the nose hard. After impact I can hear you let go of the stick so I can assume you were probably commanding right roll and up elevator trying to recover, which creates even further drag on the left wing due to the aileron deflection and of course the elevator isn’t helping let the airplane recover from the critical angle of attack (AOA). We are all guilty of this even with real planes as I see students due it every day but the hard to fight human instinct to give more right roll command and up elevator only hurts the recovery efforts. Remember an airplane can stall at any speed and any attitude. Your a great sport and I can feel your pain. I once lost a $4000 comp arf on the 10th flight… and I just recently stepped into the world of turbines with a 2.2M T-one sport jet, and just completed the 6th flight on it and hoping to get many more. Again this is not meant to rial anyone up, it’s just what I see. And maybe it will help someone else avoid this. I Look forward to seeing more of your videos to come.

Only those who dare big can fail big and you my friend, Che, failed big. Only those that dare big again can win big and this does not deter you. The painful part is that Dudeee when you accept your plane is in pieces. Although I'm not as experienced as Jason, I was looking to see the altitude acceleration before the flight. Not seeing it accelerate downward, loose altitude (potential energy for kinetic energy) for speed I can't rule out a stall. I'm not experienced as Kenny and his 48 years, hell, not even 8, but I know those turns increase drag and I like to cheat by loosing altitude. The Corsair is the bird that gets me. Maybe it is so beautiful that I just want to see it fly slowly and I pay. I'd say where we differ, and you may see my point and join me, is that I'm happier when it is my fault (pilot error), because then I can change and continue to fly. The uncontrolled kills me because what can I do but be scared next time it will happen again. Whatever it is, thanks for sharing.

Unfortunate but it does happen. Paying close attention to the video AND what you said "roll in opposite direction" explains what happened. You're flying a dark blue airplane against a gray sky. If you notice, when you temporarily rolled out of the right turn, it was in silhouette mode. So when you when you thought you recovered and went to continue the right turn, it was actually banking to the left, which would explain why, when you pulled ELEV in the turn, it went down instead of up, because as you thought you were continuing a right bank, you were actually banking left, and by the time you thought you were level, you were actually almost inverted. So when you pulled up, you were pulling into the ground. If you watch closely you can see it end up in an away bank attitude. Plus, you can see when it's going down, the vertical stab is toward the ground. Inverted. Disorientation. It happens.

Oh no Che'! I am very sorry to see this.No pilot error here,you don't roll uncommanded like that unless something failed first.I hope to see you flying one of your other cool edfs very soon.Peace guys!

What I have noticed is that most fatal problems stick their ugly head up in the first few flights. After, that it becomes less and less likely. In less a burnt out lipo is used or something. Even the cheapest servos last a pretty long time.

That was a real bummer man and I sure feel for you, I've been flying all sorts of aircraft for a lot of years and have had more than my share of those WTF moments/ total losses. I have the exact same jet in the same scheme (among many others including turbines big and small) and they all fly great in the right circumstances but in the wrong circumstances most jets will do just what yours did - a classic quick and without warning snap stall which are almost all impossible to recover in time, unless you are way up high. I'd put it down to a lack of speed in that turn, and the lower wing just let go, giving it quick opposite aileron just adds to the problem. You need to get more speed to recover from those stalls but the earth does come up fast doesn't it! I'm sure most of the electronics will be salvageable and will slot right in to the next model. I'd go for a more forgiving model, like the Blackhorse Viper and most of your components will slot right in. Good luck with your next build and flying.

Che, way to stay as positive about it as you could! It did look like it just started a slow roll in the opposite direction that was not able to be corrected, I feel like that's always the worst feeling. I'm sorry about this one buddy. She was a really nice bird. Stay up brotha!

Very sorry, but as Air Marshall said, if most of the guts are still good, you have most of the expensive parts ready to put in another one. Keep up the good work!

WOW!!! …..so sorry man!!! Words can’t express, hope you can figure out what went wrong when you get over the initial shock, we all know the feeling, however much the cost, but I know what you put into this and it makes it a lot worse than a 600.00 dollar plane😞

Sorry for you loss man.. but you were about 5 lbs overweight. All that bling looks good on the ground but nobody cares about it in the air.. and that's the important part.

Hey. My opinion. Been flying 40 years. So I may be right, may be wrong. Looks like you were flying a huge pattern and lost track of which wing was up and which wing was down. Whatever it was you can hear your sticks on your radio twang back to center which may mean you had full throw right or left, and full throw up. It just my opinion but looks like it started with loss of right left position (visually) and ended in a heavy stall. Shes a pretty heavy jet as you can see when she took off. Truly sorry. In a way I'd rather it was your fault. Because you don't want to chase a radio problem. Then you'll always be shiting your pants when you fly. One thing I love to do is own my mistakes and learn from them. I'm really not trying to be a dick. Sorry again for the loss guy. :(

I have had the very thing your talking about happen to myself, I did not stall but ended up inverted and plowed in not knowing I was inverted.

Damn. So much easier to see a 500$ bnf crash than a 1500 plus dollar arf crash. SMH.
