I am a big fan of ecological economics and this is a good introductory video. This combined with the hypothesis of nature deficit disorder put forward by Richard Louv are strong foundations for my thinking around the development of the Tarkine Learning Centre and the management of places like the Tarkine.

Very nice. I allready heared much from this, while watching many talks of William . e. Rees, the cofounder of the ecological Footprint. If i would have to study again, this would be one of my favorite choices...

Environmental economics is economics but it can sound "foofy" because of the word "environmental." I'm planning to major in environmental economics in college, but I am concerned about how having EnviroEcon rather than Econ on my resume as my major. What are businesses' general attitudes toward EnviroEcon majors? Do EnviroEcon majors have an advantage or a disadvantage in the job market?

Riggs, what a fantastic question. I need the answer to this as well. I have a feeling the answer is likely that Ecological economists will be discriminated against, in this greedy Fiat, artificial, inflated, bailed out, financial world we live. But, the ethical decision, is to do what’s best for future generations. Multi disciplinarily is a key trait in science. There will be an increased demand for ecologically minded and educated people whom have sustainability in their sights. Demand for this will eventually come through necessity, but it will arrive eventually.

The problem of thinking starts with reductionism and duality, living systems have to be thought through big-mind wholistic way for collaborative solution. Where is ecological economics now?

Jon Erickson mentions "human capital", "social capital" and "natural capital" as if capital is an eternal economic category. Only within a capitalist mode of production does capital exist. No capital in an egalitarian hunter-gatherer economy or slave or feudal either. The video presents an economics that doesn't address the issue of ownership and control of societies productive forces and natural resources i.e. the current owners of the productive forces retain ownership. To implement "ecological economics" one would need to get the permission of the current owners of society's productive forces and natural resources. Jon Erickson presents a kind of utopian capitalist utilitarianism i.e. another 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎 of capitalism. "Ecological economics" is reformist.

Try visiting The Venus Project's website, or The Zeitgeist Movement, to find out! :-) But any Resource Based Economy would be based on the emergent and symbiotic nature of life itself, and as such would be in a constant state of change based on new information and understandings and their application to the social system to benefit all life.
