@Michael Dollar, OMG!!! I was just having a typing battle with a bunch of knuckleheads that Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill was probably the best album of the 90's. They kept arguing commercial success & I was TRYING to explain to them it goes beyond commercial success. Like this song, JLP was MASTERFULLY engineered from top to bottom. And IT WAS a commercial success to boot.
@rtraktsdn11972 жыл бұрын
@@bonusbaby801 JLP was also one of the first commercially successful albums to be recorded on the Alesis ADAT machine (which was aimed at the prosumer) I think it contributed a sort of mid-range harshness to the sound of the album which made it stand out even more. I love when massive hit albums are produced using less than perfect equipment and procedures and still come out on top. I think in this case the songs were just so good that it wouldn't have mattered if the album was recorded in a shoebox! :D

I am a very eclectic musician and I've heard a lot of music. But this song touches me in a very special way especially when it moves to the chorus with MMMMM in those minor chords it goes right through me. This piece draws attention away from the chorus with the hummimg and gives the listener pause for reflection on what was just said. Extremely effective rhetorical device. The range and inflections of the vocals make it stand out as unique in memory. And the angelic voices in the end is gorgeous. Uniquely creative; I applaud Crash Test Dummies.

Been trying to find this song for a couple of years off and on Its really hard to find when you dont know the band or song name, and had only ever heard it at work alongside heavy machinery that drowned out every single lyric, i didnt even know that the chorus was just "Mmmm "mmmm". So for a couple of years ive been asking people "hey do you know that song from the early 90s with that guy with the deep voice", of ten theyd ask me to hum it but i cant sing/hum in tune (its in tune in my head) so i'd just make this unrecognisable noise and people would say "uhh no never heard that" and theyd back slowly away from me... So anyway, massive relief now ive found it, not entirely sure i even like it - though i dont hate it, but its nice to finally put this mystery to bed

One of those songs that superficially is so stupid it's brilliant. Brad Roberts more or less deliberately gives his voice inflections a "dufus" quality that is sorta of endearing -- but the chord progression and harmonics in the middle and at the end is unique and gives the song a sort of melancholy relevance to what is real life to some people. it ain't *_Everybody Hurts_* (R.E.M.) but it's in that realm.
