And to think that this song is based on a real life song. To anyone who doesn't know, this song for Rusty Walrus is an a capella version of the Hebrides Overture, created by Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, or Felix Mendelssohn for short, during the Romantic Era of the 19th century. Apparently, this song wasn't created to tell a certain story, but instead, to set the scenery of something/depicting a particular mood, which is emphasized by the fact that the song has two themes to it. The first theme of the song, which was written by Mendelssohn while visiting Fingal's Cave on the Island of Staffa in the British Isles, depicts the feelings of solitude and loneliness, while the second theme depicts the movement of the moving waves of a sea. It's so interesting that a song like this was used in some capacity for a chase in Crash Bandicoot, which is fitting for what the song does: sets the tone for something happening or about to happen.

I knew it was based off Mendelssohn's work, but never knew that much about the original song. Interesting information I never expected to come from crash bandicoot!

Hey guys. Classical composer here. So, yes this is Mendelssohn's overture The Hebrides (also know as Fingal's Cave) in a cappella arrangement. It's not a "song", it's an overture (a solo orchestral piece of music with a thematic behind it). It's considered nowadays an early tone poem, a musical genre that Liszt would supposedly invent later that became extremely popular (although I'd argue that Chopin ballades were the real breakthrough). It's in B minor, it's in sonata form (the reason why it carries 2 subjects, don't use the term "theme") and it's not for a big orchestra although it is quite bombastic to hear. To sum up a long story, Fingal of legend of legend was Ossian's father, a 3rd century poet-warrior that at the time had been recently discovered (it wasn't, it was a fabrication by a poet called Macpherson). Early romantics were obsessed by it so Mendelssohn visiting the cave of legend was fitting. The piece is quite something and is regarded as one of the finest single pieces of orchestral music. The game arrangement is quite something. They didn't use ideas of the piece, they transcribed the entire thing and put a beat to it. Whoever made the decision to do it had mad balls. When I played the game, I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. Bravo to whoever did it.

Frustration about this chase aside imagine the frustration N.Gin has to deal with constantly having to fix or replace the doors on his ship cuz it seems Rusty just plows through them without opening them. Its like in Count Duckula where Nanny just doesn't know how to open doors and she just smashes through them.
