im not saying they're good to take, I'm just saying at least they aren't like heroin which no one takes just once. you can try most drugs one night, have a great time or a horrible one, and you can still walk away from it.

kefkapalazzo1 yeah, i get that and my above comment wasn't meant to come across as really serious. i think it's just worth pointing out that there are many drugs besides the few you mentioned that can be massively harmful or lethal upon first consumption,though some may be not all that well known.

It's hard to maintain your enthusiasm every day for decades when half your audience is only in the room because they're legally required to be in school every day, and would rather experience physical pain than listen to you speak one more sentence about neurotransmitters. All that indifference (or outright malice) can wear down one's enthusiasm for teaching very quickly.

I used to hate these videos back in high school because my teacher used to show these instead of slowly introducing and teaching the topic, which made every student feel overwhelmed and stressed. Now that I’m in college, these are so great for reviewing material because they go super in-depth and explain things very well! Great work!

bob dash I never meant John Greene was going to lecture "there is no God", but rather about inconvenient facts, such as, the poor historicity of Moses and the Exodus, the tablets of ugarit in Syria, the pagan origins of Judaism, the pagan elements in Christianity (Christmas and Easter), and the council of nicea. I just was saying that an unbiased review of the religions will be greatly inconvenient for the religions themselves
@Bobsry169 жыл бұрын
Kevin Lopez OK, i see what you mean and i agree to some extent. There are a lot of double standards and inconsistencies in modern Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Those are the religions that tend to go crazy when someone contradicts there canon, regardless of accuracy or basic human morality. This criticism is coming from a open minded Christian. The pagan thing is the one of the most ignored issues in major monotheistic religions.

When Hank talks about this kinda stuff i find it hard to believe humans happened and evolved by chance. It makes it so hard to believe we weren't designed in this certain way. I don't mind if people disagree, that's just my thought. I just think we and the universe are just too complex to have happened by chance.
@meaganmichaelis8 жыл бұрын
+Brooke Dendiu I totally agree.
@venetabeqiri56668 жыл бұрын
+Brooke Dendiu I disagree. We started off very simple, and BECAUSE things happened by chance we are complex; imagine you are trying to create a robot, but you cannot decide exactly what materials to use and how to make it; everything happens by chance and the way the robot adapts to the environment over billions of years. Surely the robot would become very complex? This is the same for humans.
@m7mdhussam1648 жыл бұрын
+Veneta Beqiri dude you've just answered your self lol, so you're giving us an example of what if WE were trying to create a robot and we started very simple then got complex right? That's amazing but hey that simple robot didn't create it self did it? I won't say anymore I hope this question answer you
@queensaharaice73768 жыл бұрын
+Veneta Beqiri I agree. Besides even if we weren't created by chance its more unlikely were were created by a (usu) white man,who's "Perfect",speaks English, Floats in the sky, and lives in a place unlike earth. Sounds more like an alien to me. Just my opinion, I respect all religions. Peace 😃✌
@brookelee97458 жыл бұрын
+Milo curry I don't think God, I'm assuming you're referring to, is a white American man who speaks english but to each their own to speculate :) I mean to me it makes more sense that we were designed than we just fell into place by chance. Humans and life/ existence as a whole is so complex for me, personally, to think it just happened by chance. That's all, not really bringing God or religion into it but i totally respect if you don't agree. Have a good day!

Awww you left out cholinesterase-inhibitors. AKA nerve gas, AKA muscle spasm to death, AKA firing of nerves till your body shuts down. Basically a continuous wave of depolariozation. Plus, cholinesterase is an important enzyme that breaks down excess acetylcholine. BUT, the nervous system is huge and I'm sure you could have a crash course that only focuses on the nervous system.

So, why don't depression medications like SSRI's have the same long term negative health effects as another reuptake inhibitor like cocaine?
@Jackpkmn9 жыл бұрын
You assume they don't...
@939bb9 жыл бұрын
Because SSRIs work on inhibiting the uptake of serotonin, not dopamine (the "pleasure" neurotransmitter) which cocaine inhibits the uptake of, there's no "high" from SSRIs that you come to crave. But, as with cocaine, the SSRIs may interfere with the brains natural production of neurotransmitters (serotonin in the case of SSRIs and dopamine in the case of cocaine), so you must taper off them slowly as your brain readjusts.
@EJAndrews139 жыл бұрын
Cody Nault In the very long term they probably would, but they also probably have a different chemical structure so as not to be as effective an inhibitor as cocaine allowing for a more controlled usage. Then there is controlling how much of the drug you take. Generally prescription drugs that alter neurochemistry should be taken at as low a dosage as possible while still being effective in order to stave off the negative health effects for as long as possible.Plus, if you stop taking the drug, or switch to a drug that acts on your brain differently, the specific areas affected buy the first drug will recover, to a point, back towards that brains baseline.This is also why most doctors will have multiple treatment options, like exercise and group therapy, or art therapy. So the drug, hopefully, is a supplement to other treatments.Wow, that went on for a while. Sorry about that, hope it helped : )
