Your little "scare" reminded me of my college roommate, Steve. Shortly after we became roommates, I was in the shower one morning. I had just finished my shower and had taken my towel off the shower door to dry myself off. Just then the shower door opened and there was Steve in boxer shorts, a t-shirt with eyeholes cut in it over his head and a large butcher's knife in his hand. Rather than scream, I paused for a second and then calmly said, "Good morning, Steve."

DeHerg I was just minding my own business, Steve was the weird one. Just saying, "Good morning, Steve," kept him from bothering me again. One time he said that the Mafia was after him for gambling debts. I don't know whether to believe that or not. One time he ripped out all the pages of a Bible and taped them to the walls and ceiling in the hallway of our suite. Each suite had six dorm rooms (one single and five doubles), two bathrooms, a common room with two couches, mini-fridge, two burner electric range, counter and storage space. Our suite became known as the "Art Suite" since we had so many art majors in our suite. One of my suite-mates was my Best Man at both of my weddings.

And serotonin can be related to different anxieties as well. Or any other anxiety disorder that I may or may not have in this scenario

I'm glad he got this part of "psychological is biological" out of the way. It generally gets my goat when people claim the mind is immaterial because we "think of immaterial things" (despite we haven't proven those ideas are in any way existing outside of our personal bias). I will think the mind is immaterial once we have an instance of mind without a body that we can observe and say "yeah, it's intelligent and interacting, but it lacks a body to maintain it"
@mzdimplz9310 жыл бұрын
But if there was a mind existing without a body we would have no way of detecting it because its immaterial
@RPGgrenade10 жыл бұрын
Unless it interacted with our physical plain in some way. I have no interest in learning about any sort of immaterial "mind" that exists in our plane of existence and isn't willing to show itself. Because if it isn't willing to show itself, and there is no way of understanding it, in any way whatsoever, then we might as well dismiss it as non-existent as even those who claim it to be real have no real proof of its existence. I believe in things for which there is evidence, because the immaterial presents no evidence, and affects the physical world in no way, therefore, it is of no consequence to our lives, unless you assume it to be true and decide to go purely on that "gut" feeling which is about as reliable as a baseball bat made of liquid water.

I've studied neurochemistry in order to understand myself better and found it extremely helpful and useful in identifying and addressing certain problems, including depression and sleep disorder. However, there's an unfortunate tendency among some people who study neurochemistry to adopt a narrow and rigidly deterministic view of themselves and of human beings. This is particularly unfortunate among people who are ill as it means they are less capable of healing themselves than they would otherwise be, as, regarding themselves as the passive playthings chemicals, they forget the essential primacy of will and self-direction in making oneself better. (To gain some insight into this, I would recommend reflecting on it in an ayahuasca or "ana-huasca" psychedelic "trip".)

Same. I have no idea why I laughed, considering I was half-asleep and about to pass out.

I could tell you were really passionate about this topic Hank (or even if you weren't you did a darn good job at pretending you were) You explained the topic so well and I feel I understand it so much better now, thanks a bunch.
