Children also seem to love rituals. I'd recommend all new parents to create rituals for their family. It really helps to keep folks together in difficult times

My ritual is clicking on John "Color of my shirt" videos when they show up in my feed. Usually that's followed by clicking a like button and staring at my phone screen

Really like the wrapping of of this video with that quote about rituals helping us bring a bit of awareness in our mundane lives.

In Germany we have a lot of national rituals surrounding the memory of WWII and what we did then, to remind us of never again. It's one of the things in my country I'm most proud of, and it shows that it is possible as a community to reflect critically and decide what one doesn't want to do (anymore), and yes, of course that is an ongoing process.

I can hear a 'controversy detected' klaxon sounding 😂 Sounds like an interesting video but also maybe not a fun comments section 😂

Carl Jung had some line about how people can either choose to consciously engage with ritual, or the need for ritual action will bubble out of our subconscious in the form of habitual behaviors driven by our neuroses. There's something good for the human brain in the repetition of personally meaningful acts

I was raised Catholic, and the rituals of "smells and bells" (incense, candles, and bells rung during the Mass) help people transition from the mundane world into sacred space. Now I am a Unitarian Universalist and have served on our Sunday Morning team, planning Sunday and holiday services, for at least 15 years. Our rituals are different but serve a similar function. Thanks for pointing out how we have rituals outside religion. Humans clearly need ritual in some form or another, or we wouldn't keep creating and practicing them.

You were a chaplain? Wow. As an agnostic who doesn't care about religion I somehow feel being a chaplain is cool.
