Mark, I have wondered about that, as well. Also about sacrificial guards that are relatively easy to replace and without having to haul out. Additionally, everyone seems to have water-proof cameras aboard now days. Would placing one forward a few feet below the waterline, help in navigating through those tricky spots?

You took it well. Misery maybe loves company...we hit a rock a bit east of you in the islands across from Timor Leste that begins with an A I think...and we did a good bit of damage and had to make repairs underwater. And then haul out in Bali. And it’s all downhill from there.Do NOT haul out in Bali unless you want worse damage! It’s really scary hitting things in remote areas knowing it’s no easy solution. Your closest p for repairs unless an utmost emergency which doesn’t look like it is, is Johor Buru, Singapore (expensive) or a few places west coast of mainland Malaysia. Also Kudat at top of Borneo (cheapest though not sure they do cats) I know...all very far.Try at all costs to avoid Serangan Bali though where a good contract means nothing. Good luck! Try to enjoy the rest of Indo..one of the coolest places we have been. -Rebecca On SV Brick House

Ha ha, Captain always gets blamed, forever. But when things go well, you hear "we did great!". Been there. Crew need to work on doing all the other things, so the Captain can stay in the cockpit and remain focused on piloting and navigation. On a monohull, most of the real damage is internal, from an oil can effect as the hull flexes.
