When I was a new rc pilot the advise given to me was - for a good landing - have a good approach.
@MarksAultimateRC5 күн бұрын
I think I have 5 other videos on this plane with great landings, check them out. The approach is everything, was definitely too low, so I was too late to apply power to compensate and landed short of the runway on final

@ricardopr545 күн бұрын
@MarksAultimateRC That depends on the mAh of your battery and the remaining percentage after landing. I always start with 3 minutes for my jets and go from there, adding 30-second increments until I land with around 20%. 👍🏾👍🏾

The moment of touchdown is so critical. I like to give it a small flair to bleed speed at the far end of the runway, then keep just a small amount of throttle. I had a similar crash when my 70mm Yak came in steeply with no power and then caught a wingtip. I've had to replace retracts in almost all of my planes (except FMS).
@israeljuarez37073 сағат бұрын
My landing approach begins 1 minute before it's time to land. Still high, I deploy full flaps and steadily reduce speed while being very gentle on the turns. Just like full size jets, I have the RC EDF gradually descend while reducing speed. My final approach is long, scalelike and flat. Touchdown is always on the mains after a minimum of flare. As we know, any swept wing plane is prone to tip stall and, at low altitude, these prove fatal. Note how the jet tip stalls before the crash landing. This is exactly how EDFs with swept wings stall and no amount of SAFE will save it. In addition, I would NEVER fly a 70 mm, let alone an 80 mm EDF in a place like the one shown in the video-too many obstructions. In addition, where I live (Los Angeles County), I would have been asked by the police to leave and to not fly model planes at a public park. An 80 mm EDF really needs a place like a club field or a very large area devoid of any obstructions to fly it SAFELY and to get the most out of it.

Best sounding jet... FMS did a great job on this one. It's not a crash... it's a bad landing. Even with the bad landing, it wasn't so bad that the gear should have let go. The gear on most current planes is a bit light and they either come apart or go through the wing.
@MarksAultimateRC6 күн бұрын
Definitely seems to be the case. For as much progress as the manufactures have made in the 4 + years I have been in the hobby, gear seems to be the one area they have largely ignored.
@rcdavidk6 күн бұрын
@@MarksAultimateRC Oddly enough, this is the one area where 3D Printed Plane landing gear has improved a lot. A combination of solid parts, heated threaded inserts to hold bolts, and some ingenious sprung gear now make for robust installs. I have the FMS F86 and I am concerned about that front landing gear. That's just a problem waiting to happen.
@leviathan351cleveland3Күн бұрын
Yeah the gear is just not good enough for a lot of jets, that's for sure.

That sucks. I had the same nose gear damage as you. FMS made the plastic way too thin and it had no support under it. I had to cut and glue 4 wood paint stir sticks together to raise the box then I epoxied the box together. It help for a few months then it gave out again so replaced the plane. It’s a great flying plane overall. Good luck
@MarksAultimateRC7 күн бұрын
I reglued the plastic and reinforced the thin plastic piece towards the front by glueing another piece of plastic as support. We will see how long it lasts, hate to buy a whole new fuse. Certainly the one aspect of this plane I don not like.
@rcflyguy85145 күн бұрын
Not trying to go all NTSB however if you look at the slow-mo, when the aircraft first touched down on the grass and bounced the main gear was intact but dislodged on the second much harder bounce on the pavement. Classic case of a go around after the first bounce and considering the tight spaces you are flying in I am confident in your flying abilities that should have allowed you to do just that! Have had the same jet since they came out and flew it four or five times today with one go around, if it ain't right it isn't going to be right by forcing it so go around. You already know this!
@MarksAultimateRC5 күн бұрын
One of the "nice things" about recording your own video's, you can go back and watch your screw ups as much as you want. That same right main gear has failed before, got a video posted of that too, but at the end of the day, if your short you should go around. I do most of the time, but "youtube" is not interested in those videos. There are at least 3 vids on my page of good landings. Thanks for watching!
@1flstc6 күн бұрын
I had to glue two 3/8 square hard wood blocks into each main retract same with the nose gear as once the gear rips out there is nothing to hold it in place and it rips out the foam next to the glue, have had to redo every retract on every FMS plane I have owned. BUT I will still buy them as they are some of the best FLYING planes out there, it's just that ONE oops and its glue time for the gear.
@MarksAultimateRC6 күн бұрын
We'll see if my glue job holds, otherwise, will likely have to do something like that to fix. Going to try and post next flight on channel. Thanks for watching

FMS quality. They charge a good price for this foam! Good luck getting the right glue to get everything back together. They always seem to have spare parts in stock!

Unfortunately the only way to fix the front gear is to buy a new fuse. Glued back together, will see how long it lasts. Soon as we get some good flying weather on the weekends, I plan to put it back up and have a video on it.

Hi I have the Free wing F-86 you flew fine but during the approach you were flying a little faster then needed. you should try at a safe altitude to set up for landing and bring the throttle to half then trim to level then add a click or 2 of up just enough to get the nose just a little up . now fly it around like that and get a feel . that little twitching you were getting near final you can correct using a slight slowing of the servo speed. to land now the model has been flying at half throttle slowly bring the throttle back the model will descend but speed will remain the same.( once set up if you make shallow coordinated turn's less the 30 degrees the model will not stall ) so just stay off the elevator and use power to make you approach then as you approach the runway the model will be flying slower and more stable with the nose slightly up and all you have to do is add a little up to flare and burn off speed to a gentle touchdown on mains. Takes some practice but no more LG problems.

Hi Peter, I have about 3 or 4 other video's with a bunch of good landings, check them out if you like. Of coarse on KZbin, the ones that get the most attention are the ones that don't go well. This is the only jet I have with air brakes, still figuring out when to deploy them, have figured out that they are too effective on full deployment for a landing. Thanks for watching
@lw2163165 күн бұрын
Many of my planes did not have enough glue or enough support for the gear - and could not hold up to a hard landing. Over time as approaches and landings got better then there were fewer broken gears. So we need better planes and better pilots.

No doubts, the heavier they are, the less room for error on landing. The ideal size for me is a 70MM, but manufacturers, other than Motion RC / Freewing don't seem to be making them. All Horizon wants to make is Vipers and I am definitely done with those. I think a new Motion F22 70mm may be my next purchase!

Sorry man........I've done that and much worse, makes for a sick feeling...........I did that, a lot worse on a 80mm F-16...... took all the landing gear out and made the air intake real.........hollowed out the fuselage from the front to the EDF and just do hand launch and belly landings. Man did it ever fly great after that, picked up speed also and belly landings on grass are really slick.

You hit a person at 80mph with a plane that weighs just 10 lbs. it could be catastrophic. You’re a free adult. Do what you want. Just consider the risks.
