Crate GX1600 boosted with a metalzone

This is my rehearsal amp and is actually different than the gx130c. It isn't as compressed as the x130c. This has more headroom and pushes more air. It definitely lacks gain. I am currently using my hugodwrx ironbird that we put together. with an EMG 81 with the 24 volt mod and a carvin 4x12 with G12t75s. I'm keeping this amp quiet with a Donner noise killer. Boosting with my metalzone.

Is it a different circuit entirely than the GX130C, or is it just the bigger power section giving it more headroom/raising the saturation point?

Different. The GX-130C is like a stereo chorus amp with a fuckton more gain. The G1600XL is the same preamp as the G600XL, but with a 160 watt power amp instead of the 600's 60 watt power amp.

They're different, but can get similar tones if dialed in right, also depends on your cab and speaker choice :)

Do you have a favorite distortion pedal? Like if you were stuck with a clean amp and had to pick a distortion pedal what would it be? I'm guessing you might say metalzone but I was curious if there's another you'd go for

@CryptToneMusic in all honesty a I keep a metalzone on my pedal board because it very well could save your ass if you need to borrow an amp or need to run the clean channel. AND nicely boost any marshall or crate. But the most used pedal live and what I strive for in personal tone is an 80s made in japan Boss DS1 or maybe even the turbo distortion.

People used to talk shit on those amps in the mid-late 90s after they sold them all to used stores to get into grunge and nu metal. You could get them for 90-199 bucks all the time used back then.

probably all eq knobs at noon, level on max and distortion on zero

From what I can see: gain off, level almost cranked (3:00-ish), mids boosted (1:00-1:30), highs slightly rolled off (11:00-ish). Can't see the bass or mid frequency, but the bass is probably safe to leave around noon or with a slight roll off like the highs, and the mid freq should probably be set according to the needs of the setup anyway.
