I don’t think MojoTone has anything to do with the Warehouse (WGS) speakers do they? @MojoTone should send Kyle some British V30s though so we can hear that comparison too. I think they similarly take off a little of the top end shrill that Celestion Vintage 30s have.

@@Professional.Bro.777 Same. If you have a high gain amp, it's pretty much going to sound close to another high gain amp if you use the same speakers. There ARE exceptions to that, but the speaker is the MAIN component of sound, and is the biggest influence on the sound you get!

Glad more people are catching on about G12M Greenbacks for metal. They are NOT just for classic/hard rock like so many people seem to think. For me they have the perfect balance of upfront and balanced mids, with minimal high end sizzle like you find in most V30's, and still with respectable low end. Perfect for modern metal tones.
@amirtak988610 ай бұрын
@maynardburger yeah I used to think v30s were the best speaker ever made until I heard some of the older and newer G12M speakers on KZbin and I like how much tighter and focused they sound compared to the vintage 30. My favorite G12M type speaker is the Eminence Private Jack 8ohm. It's 50w and it sounds so perfectly balanced and nails the G12M character. Also Celestion is recently making the G12M speakers in the UK now.
@JoseyStrandedАй бұрын
They've been my personal favorite for about a decade now. I also tend to like the G12T-75 that most people seem to dislike. Vintage 30 is not my thing at all although the Engl sounded really good here. I used to have the 800 Watt Mesa/Boogie 4EB with EV Black Shadows. The ugliest sounding cab I've ever had. I also like the G12M-65 Creambacks and I've noticed that I tend to prefer the 4 x 12" base over the angled.
@amirtak9886Ай бұрын
@@JoseyStranded Funny thing is, I don't like the g12t-75 speaker on its own, but it does sound really good blended with a Marshall g12 Vintage 30 speaker in a Marshall 4x12 cab. It reminds me of the 80's thrash metal tones. The g12m-65 is also really good to, but I still think the G12M 25W has a better tonal character overall and is the best greenback speaker and on par with the eminence private jack.

I produce/engineer/mix/master full time at my recording studio. People will come in with $2500 heads and $500 cabinets complaining about their tone. I plug them into any of my better cabinets (selected, of course, to compliment the head and the tone they're going for) and it sounds 1000 times better. Instantly. Now, pick the right speaker in the right cab to go along with the right character coming out of the amp head and you've gone from "this is shit" to "oh shit this rips." The thing that tends to bum them out, though, is when I pull out my Egnator Rebel 20 - a head a got for $150 used - and put it through the right cab (it loves my Mesa 2x12 from 2001) and it sounds better than their Revv (for example) through the cab they walked in with. That head's awesome and it's my secret "vocal mids" amp that always sounds cool. I think it's a painful lesson a lot of us guitar folk learn: amps are cool, fun to experiment with, and have a definite hand in shaping the character of the tone but cabs are where 90% of the tone is designed and defined. Amps are the fresh lookin' shoes while cabinets are the shirt, pants, hat, haircut, and body shape of the person wearing the shoes.

If you stop to think about it, every one of us is hearing each of these speakers differently. So it's not only that each speaker is different, but we all hear things differently due to various factors. Just think about the different types/degrees of hearing damage that we probably each suffer from, to one degree or another. After over three decades of industrial work and a lifetime of loud music, I know I have hearing damage. Different frequencies have become attenuated. It's mind-blowing and one of the main reasons that we each prefer different tones.

I think this has been the most helpful demonstration of the nuances in tonality, not only between speakers of a different brand, but the same speakers at different independence. 16ohm somehow sounds deeper, fuller with a greater low end response than 8ohm. The G12H30 was my definitely my personal favorite. Smooth highs, powerful mids. Since this amp is already has a somewhat scooped tone it's pretty logical that a very mid-forward speaker plays well with it, and that somewhat mid-scooped speakers doesn't (like the T75). However, the G12C Greenback (should be mid-forward) didn't sound very good IMO, while the K100 (usually a bit scooped) did, so that logic might not work after all 😅

Hey Kyle, love this vid. Something I noticed is that many of these cabs seem like they push more or less volume. I'm not looking at a VU meter or anything, but some seem quite a bit louder. You've been in the studio a fair amount so I'm sure you're aware of the problems regarding A/Bing and volume. An increase in volume, whether actual or perceived, usually sounds better. I have plugins in Reaper that will automatically level match different tracks. Maybe you could implement something like that on these tests. I'm betting there is a way to do it that's pretty drag and drop and wouldn't really mess with your workflow. That way all the tracks are level matched and you aren't introducing any non-linearities by using something like a limiter. Just a thought. Dig the second channel, keep up the good work.

A pertinent question: when you guys search for a cabinet IR do you just search for the one which sounds best or do you choose more specifically like "Now I want a Celestion V30 hereto combine with this amp I'm using" or an eminence or whatever brand? I'm asking this because I don't know how recognizable are the IRs out there. Sometimes I wonder that if a company just lable some IR "Celestion V30 " we all accept it without questioning because no one is going to be able to recognize if that is actually the V30's sound.

a cabinet and its speakers are much like the guitar and its pickups. the construction and materials of the cabinet can absolutely transform the sound of the speaker and in my opinion the construction of the cabinet has more to do with your low end than the speaker itself.
