Nobody uses the term crawdads unless you're a cast member of the TV show The Beverly hillbillies.

We used to have a lot of huge crawfish around mygrandmother's property (now my nephew's property), But since neighbors dammed off the creek for ponds, the branch stays dry most of the year, and I have never seen crawfish like those again. they were not just red or white like those shown in the video, they were the darker color, with bright turquoise blue and blood red colorations on their backs and claws, and they were very large with long claws. They were very beautiful in clear water. Sadly. I think they may have been a victim of their good taste.

That it takes lobster so many years to grow to size where it is marketable to the public, compared to how long it takes for a crawfish to grow into full size, there is just no comparison.

I always heard about crawdaddy eating. I've never ate them myself. But I never knew all that went into these critters. All that effort, expense, and land use, must be worth it all.

so funny reading these comments.. my family own an llc we farm right around 1200 acres of crawfish every year.. to the guy talking smack about how dumb we are down here.... does 115k$ in 7 months sound dumb? yeah hold your tounge city boy.
@NRALifer16 жыл бұрын
Garron Arabie Buddy, you tell-em! Ain't nothing dumb about a farmer, especially a successful Business Owner/Farmer! You still have 5 Months left in the year, that means you can add more too that #. Plus, you forgot to mention, what that 1200 acres is worth,(you really would have hurt their feelings if you had), that alone is enough to buy & sell most of those that "think" they're above farmers. But it really doesn't matter what people like that think, they don't matter out where you live. Myself, I'm jealous, for several reasons. I own just over 500 acres, which has taken me 1/2 my life to aquire. Haven't gotten to the point of making a living off of it, but hope to change that. Then, I love Crawfish! Been out a few years and brought back 6-8 sacks for friends while I got a few for myself. But never really knew the best time, places or folks to buy from? You keep up the Good work, most of us know who is and what isn't!

Yeah a problem with liberals they look down on everyone. People do not understand that crawfish taste is not a big leap from shrimp, crab, or lobster. Though different, hardly an issue. Its more a cultural aversion to some. I know. I grew up in the north with a family who said they were not good to eat. Wrong!

You might want to try the United States department of agriculture. They're going to have all the knowledge that you need. Also this film is made by Louisiana State University. Get in touch with them as well. Good luck.

Are there any efforts to improve them genetically for size or breedability? They are not uncommon fair here in east Texas.

Why aren't the mud bugs put into boiling water before they're cooked. To get rid of lake water and their poop
@dementiabidenfallingontheb67122 жыл бұрын
Ummm, if you drop them in boiling water then you are cooking them! What you were talking about is called purging. There are restaurants in Louisiana that have giant containers full of crawfish and clean fresh water. They recycle that water and put in fresh water. They do not feed the Crawfish for 72 hours. During that time the Crawfish poop out all the impurities, making a very clean tasting meat. I ate it one of those restaurants about 40 years ago and the Crawfish they had were huge and they purged them also. They were very very good

You just watch.. Crawfish are the least thought of crustacean as a valuable food product. But crawfish are far too tasty, to be left alone and not gain in price. Craw fish are quite a bit like our throw away food from the late 1800's. Back in the 18 hundreds lobster was considered a garbage seafood. It would be thrown out unto farmers gardens to fertilize their vegetables. Can you believe the waste of that? All crawfish are, is freshwater lobster! t just as much great flavor as their big cousin
