Crawfishing in a Louisiana crawfishing pond Part 1

I love being out in my crawfishing boat catching crawfish. Pond crawfishing is from Nov. to May. Atchafalaya basin crawfishing is from Mar. to Aug. I love the wildlife and this video will show you how we catch pond crawfish.

Yes, it allot better. Around here there are allot of crawfish farms that prefer to use the push boat so not to make ruts in the pond. Not me I rather ride in the cool boat. Thanks

You don't have to give any arms, just come on down and you can check it out any time. I really enjoy it when the weather is nice. But rain or shine I have to go fishing and that makes it a job. 32° or 90° I will be out there crawfishing.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. Does that "water-wheel" also serve as an agitator to help stir-up the craw-fish? I am curious about what the most important function this serves and why. The big wheel is basically to propel the boat through the shallow water. It also enables the boat with hydraulics to lift up the backend of the boat off of the ground and to push the boat directly over the levees back into the water. The boat also has two tires up under the front of the boat once it gets on the land. I also have driven the boat down a blacktop road to a welders shop to have some repair work done. All of the cars sure stared at me funny.

Very cool! That is some really cool engineering right there! I took another look and I could just barely see the two wheels you are referring to. Ingenious! Is this a common design found for crawfishing boats? I ask that because of the way you described people staring at you when you were taking it to be repaired (LoL). Are they just not used to seeing them on the road or seeing them in general? I really need to take a trip to that part of the country. I've seen most of the country except that area. I'm sure I'd have some stories to tell.

Wood ducks, so named because they nest in tree cavities, are found in wooded swamps and woodlands near ponds, streams, and rivers. Their range expands the United States, and at one time the wood duck was so prevalent it was considered as a possible national symbol. Thanks for asking.

I plant grass in August for the crawfish to eat then I flood the ponds in October. The crawfish start coming out around November. The only fish in the pond are very small because I drain the pond every year around June. All the crawfish will hibernate in the ground till I refilled the ponds in September. I can carry up to four adults in my boat at one time. You can come down anytime between December and May and I will take you on a crawfishing tour. I let my guest watch for five minutes then hand them a pair of rubber gloves and put them to work. Let me know when you're coming and we can set it up. It will have to be next year because I am getting ready to drain all the water out now.

The motor is a 25 hp Kohler used on zero turn lawnmowers and other uses. It uses a hydraulic pump to make the big wheel move which has two hydraulic motors on it. The boat cannot go in deep water the hydraulic wheel is very heavy and will make the boat sink if it cannot touch the bottom.
