Nice work. Thanks for sharing. Wish manufacturers would just supply a set of any specialty tools needed, esoecially if for a fairly routine service like adjusting the stuffing box. Not likely one would be able to adjust the stuffing boxes at sea without your shortened wrench.
@MVSKOOKUM15 ай бұрын
Yeah it would have been difficult that’s for sure. So important to have the right tools with us when we cruise around. Nothing worse than not having what you need. 😊

You need a Skookum Stealth channel that my wife doesn’t know about for these maintenance vids. They make convincing her to buy an N40 harder!

Hahahah!! A little side Channel for Nordhavn dreamers with the maintenance side of it lol. Good idea hahah. Boats are maintenance but it’s all worth it!!!

Great job Derek, you worked that out well, and Jennifer you have a dirty laugh. So I guess that was the wing engine, used mainly for the hydraulics? (Summer is coming). Xxx
@MVSKOOKUM17 ай бұрын
Hi , we have no hydraulics on our boat. The wing engine is used for propulsion. We use it for trolling for salmon. And as an auxiliary engine to get home if the main Luggar fails 👍. 🤣🤣😂. My dirty little chuckles. Hahah. I try to behave while filming lol 😂

The corrosion may be coming from water slinging off your shaft seal. Cut up a plastic bottle for a shield and replace your packing with GFO Gore to eliminate dripping.
@MVSKOOKUM17 ай бұрын
Good ideas. Thank you. We just read about the Gore packing! Interesting. We just changed our packaging but we will consider this for when it needs to be replaced 👍

Well done Derek. Imagine the $$$ that would have cost you if you weren’t such a handy man.
@MVSKOOKUM17 ай бұрын
Yeah saves us so much money just figuring things out ourselves $$$. Lots of googling and KZbin videos help. Glad that Derek has the courage to just take things apart and figure it out.

Morning there is some tools called crows feet they come in 3/8 or 1/2 inch or metric too they work the same as your home made tool
@MVSKOOKUM17 ай бұрын
Yes I do have crow foot wrenches in my tool arsenal. I did try them to adjust the stuffing box in the past but they were too cumbersome with having to use a ratchet and all. The home made wrench works better for me in this application. 🛠️🔧🔧😀

Do you think that not using the Yanmar very much contributed to the corrosion and leak?
@MVSKOOKUM17 ай бұрын
Possibly but the seal was about 20 years old. We try to use it for trolling for fish every summer

Mr Derek may i suggest a cordless 1/2 inch impact gun none of my business not meaning to interrupt your enjoyable manual experience, I know work harder not smarter, mind you i am shocked! Offended ! ( not really ) the facial expressions that contribute to the overall viewing experience. oh the commentary on the "Lube the Shaft' with the background giggle .umm add "stuffing box" you know back to the facial expressions ummm I leave it there Keep it up.... no pun intended ROFL Oh see you at he club meeting tomorrow MR Director XD
