I picked up a couple of those 50kg servos after seeing you mention them previously. I'm going to do a video on them going into my new Capra. They appear to be great bang for the buck, thanks for finding those and mentioning them!

I haven't yet found a "Flash Hobby" product I don't like. I'm running two of their bargain-basement outrunners, the more "expensive" one was $24. Their RX-powered 45kg servo is... decent, but the direct-power 50kg at a few bucks more is the real winner of the product line. I have three or four. It might have moved into the lead for my favorite 3S servo, displacing the AGFRC SA75. I can't see anyone unseating my favorite 4S servo, the NSDRC RS500b. 500+ ounces on 4S direct for 59 bucks? Yes please.

Axial has a 67 chevy pick up that is nice - and lower than the Pheonix body - but if you are going for a shorter wheel base there is the Mon-Tech rock crawler kind of a jeep - 305 mm wheelbase

I'm going to try the 50kg servo per your suggestion. I had a 75kg picked out, but it only goes to 8.4v. I want to try direct wire on mine. The more I re-watch your other build of the VS4-10 the more I am leaning towards getting one instead of building the Element kit. The only thing is I want to try portals and this old man ain't paying what they want for a port axle unless it comes in a kit. I also wanted to try servo on axle, but if I get the VS4-10 that can't happen. Such as it is I'm willing to make sacrifices, or just sneak my way into buying another one at tax time.

The difference in price between the straight axle Phoenix kit and the portal axle Phoenix kit is $10 so that shouldn’t stop you. Phoenix Portal Kit $399 Phoenix Straight Kit $389

Ok I just watched your bridge building video nice job by the way but you did some FPV driving in it witch is great but I would love to see some FPV of you crawling on some of your more recent obstacles it just adds such a touch of realism to what you do keep up the good work

Holy crap, I completely forgot that I own that camera! I need to-- first-- find the old Sony, then get it charged up.

I use a run cam phoenix and a team black sheep evo transmitter. The evo has osd built in to the tx, so it shows my Bvolt in goggles. I plug it in the balance port of trx4 battery. The whole set-up is in the box the runcam came in, that way it’s portable. I just added a 5v fan to exhaust Cause the tbs evo can go up to 800mw. Also I use a lil $30 fpv screen to drive mostly. It’s fucking next level fun. But adds another layer of stuff

I can go farther with video than the traxxas tx can go @800mw. As long as it’s flat. You would be able to sit in one spot until it flips over. And kids only fall for the flip me over stuff once. You can put a head tracker on your tx so the fpv cam will turn so you can see the obstacles better. I have not gone there yet.

If you want to do a servo winch for no money, take an RtR steering servo, rip out the pot and limiting stop, then wire directly to the motor. Control it with an RtR ESC. Even a crappy servo makes plenty of power on 3s.
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon 2 жыл бұрын
Those servo motors will survive 3S direct? I have a box under the bench marked "Servos," and another marked "ESCs/Receivers." So I have some resources. I'd love to build a winch out of some old Airtronics high-speed servo. Get that line flyin'.
@FaithSaraG
@FaithSaraG 2 жыл бұрын
@@CrawlerCanyon Yup. Within reason, little DC motors don't care about extra voltage, they just run faster. I run my scale winches on 3s using RtR ESC's as well. Unless you stall them and let them stay stalled they are fine. Dora uses an old Arrma RtR servo that had something on the board die. It makes enough power to dead lift her 8½ lbs. easily. I think it was a 12kg/cm servo, sticker is long gone.

@@JPWirt Yeah, you can do it that way too. I like using the ESC power method because you get way more power and speed plus drag brake.

@@FaithSaraG, ya, more control and speed is preferable especially in a comp setting. I don't have winches on any of my trucks. I'm more inclined towards the kinetic recovery systems for self recovery.

Do the vanquish body right by a good paint job, mint w white trim. Run them head to head. Let the new guy earn a name. Then find a lighter replacement shell. After that put the painted shell up for bid or like a giveaway to the person that names it best? Its a win win win for you, Vanquish, and algorithm.

I have been thinking about the body for this build since you mentioned it. How about using a beetle shell like the Blitzer? Cut the wings off and sink it low.

Did you figure out the 2 extra screws from the axle build. They are the steering stops for the knuckles.

So, during the fall Amazon Prime days, I just happened to be looking for a servo, recalled your mention of Flash Hobby and so I got one. Strangely, it's model number doesn't seem to exist...it's a 60kg direct power 14v servo...MB60BHW. I haven't powered it up, but I'm wondering if it's a fake...???" Have you thought about the alternant link location? I've been wondering what it'll do to the Phoenix (I have the portal).

I've been on the fence about picking up a Phoenix kit. It looks so involved 😩. I work on all my crawlers myself all the time. Am I over the hyping how difficult the kit is to assemble?

Aside from the VFD Twin, it's like putting together any other rig. And it's so well molded/machined that it just flies together. I give the manual maybe a 7.5. Of everything I've built, I think Traxxas has honestly done it best. Everything goes where it's supposed to. The Vanquish will give you some doubts because there's so many unmentioned extra parts. I can say with 100% certainty that putting the Ryft together was more difficult/frustrating, and by a wide margin.
