I have Polychromos, Prismacolor, and the 120 Crayolas! Believe it or not, I like the Crayolas. Although not as pigmented, I can blend them and actually use them in conjunction with my more expensive sets. I use them for backgrounds and then supplement with th PC’s. I also use them on pictures I don’t care a whole lot about to save my expensive pencils. Great video!

Thank you. This was a great comparison. I agree with Steve that comparing tools of equal price makes sense though. I don't understand why we would compare a .17 pencil to a 2.00 pencil. Other than the joy of swatching:-). I see reviews on Amazon comparing crayola to Caran d'ache for example.

I’d pay an extra buck or two for the “adult” line. Not more. $15 for 100 pencils sounds awesome to me! Hey, I’ve still got Roseart and Colorific in my collection. From third grade. I’ll use them all!

This is so timely. I bought a 100 pack not realizing there was a 120 to add to my collection and to use on coloring books that don’t have great paper. (I want to save my nice pencils for those projects with good paper.) Thank you for doing this! 💜

I love the 120 Crayola set! It is one of my favorite pencil sets. You need to swatch them all, there are some beautiful colors. Add the new Colors of the world pencil set and the total is 144 colors. I haven't tried any of the sIgnature sets yet. They always seem a little overpriced to me. It seems for the same price I can either get the same amount of a better product or more pencils in something that looks comparable.

The color escapes are my FAVORITE to color with. I bought one and my husband bought another. So I have two. I also love the signature tri color. Crayola has another line of colored pencils. It’s not the same name. I can’t think of it right now. They are all manufactured in Brazil I think so it could be entirely possible they are using the same factories.

I have the 50 set of the Signature pencils and I sharpen them with the Dahle 133 crank sharpener with no problem. I also have the Color Escapes 72 set and the 120 original set (yes I’m a pencil addict) I prefer the Color Escapes personally even though they aren’t being made anymore. I do think the price of the Signature pencils is too high. Great video! ❤️ Hadassah

Thanks for another great video, Jennifer. I always enjoy watching your comparisons. You do a thorough job when you're comparing pencils. That's so much better than just coloring and comparing. Thanks for that! I love that you and Steve work together. That's so nice. Your pets are so sweet! Is your chinchilla new? I agree that the Crayola signature line is a bit too pricey. The increased pigment is very nice, but that's not enough for me. I still love Crayola's classic line, and I'll continue to use them--alone and in combination with my Prismacolor and Castle Arts pencils. I love all of them.

I had the signature Crayolas but they constantly broke when I sharpened with my Kum sharpener. At least 10 with the 50 set. And the real problem is that the signatures cost a fair penny more than the regular Crayolas.

I think I have to say this is the first time I’ve ever disagreed with your opinion on some thing. I absolutely love the Crayola blend and shade pencils I’ve think they are so creamy they’re much more pigmented they just lay down so nice and I really enjoy coloring with them. On the other hand the original Crayola colored pencils I do not like coloring with at all they are hard they hurt my hands to color with them you don’t get any color pay off in my opinion. It was really nice to see how you felt about them. I loved the video even though our thoughts differ.
@4alicekg2 жыл бұрын
I agree completely!! I have the 24-set of the Crayola Signature Blend and Shade and I have zero issues with them. They lay down so smooth and pigmented, blend wonderfully, no scratchiness, and they're WAY softer than the ridiculously hard regular Crayola colored pencils. I just read somewhere in the comments section of another video, that the Crayola Color Escapes are the same formula as the Signature, so I'm on the hunt right now researching that claim. I've been wanting to buy the 50 set of Signature, but the Escapes have a 72 set, so I'd be psyched if they're the same!!

Thanks for this. I recently bought the Crayola 120 pack just to have a lot of colors, and I’m not an artist and colorist like you. They are fine for my purposes (coloring an anatomy coloring book), but I was a little disappointed that there are so many colors that are quite similar (like the greens), yet there’s not a really good basic blue-red color. I had a sharpening issue with at least one, and I was using the Kum sharpener. Just my novice two-cents worth.

I wish crayola had never set so much as a toe into the idea of the adult coloring market. Instead, I wish they could have marketed the original products to the people in this way. "Maybe you're four, or maybe you're 74. But you'll find Crayola is a great place to get started on your art journey." something like that, and just sell the products that were already amazing to us to begin with and keep the original philosophy.

You cannot get the 120 set in the UK. Out of curisosity I looked at the price on Amazon...item in dollars 29.94 - not sure what the sterling equivalent is. Shipping 93.49. I fell off my chair in shock! I have a soft spot for Crayola - the first pencils I bought when I got into adult colouring in 2014 a 50 set. I have the 50 set of the Signatures - only swatched them - but they were nice. I have battled with myself about the 100 set and eventually decided to buy them. They are coming from Amazon Europe which means they will not arrive until next Saturday. I also have the 24 Colours of the World - not opened yet - delivered this week and it was alomost like a search for the Holy Grail to get them! I am going to wait until the 100 set turn up and swatch them and the 24 set. I will enjoy doing it becuse..well what is this all about really - just enjoying the experience of something simple when you can just lose yourself and forget about everything else for a few hours.

Oh no! That is so frustrating when that happens. Without seeing the page, it’s hard to give specific advice. If you don’t want to purchase more pens...I would suggest getting creative and being bold...use some striking colors and make it obvious that the change in media occurred...maybe the flower is transforming in the spot into something else. Your the artist!! Second bit of advice...I have a playlist here on my channel that teaches some great tips on gel pen coloring. Some of the tips really help stretch the gel pen ink and make it last much longer. Good luck! Have fun! Don’t give up!

I don't think the Signatures are comparible to Prismacolors, but they're still a good pencil. The Signatures are much better than the original Crayola pencils. I use an M + R sharpener, and none of them have broken, and I'm putting a normal amount of pressure on them when I color. The Signatures have a smoother laydown, have more pigment, and they're easier on my hands. In all fairness, of course they'll have to be sharpened more and we'll go through them faster. The same can be said about Prismacolor or any other soft pencil. Also, pencils are usually tested on one kind of paper (usually the good stuff), so it doesn't show how they perform on other types of paper which are commonly used, like Amazon paper, Creative Haven, etc, etc. I agree that the original Crayolas are better for kids because they're tougher and can stand up to the way kids will use them. But how good are they in other ways when used on the low quality coloring paper found in most kids coloring books.
@amyx2313 жыл бұрын
Crayola is trying to cash in on the coloring craze...by increasing the price but not really the quality of their already-awesome product. I mean, besides being maybe softer, I don’t think their “adult” pencils are worth the price increase. I see them about double or more the kids’ sets’ prices.
