When you think about it, a lot more blocks can be snatched. When looking back at some centers that preferred to show off by volleying the ball all the way to bleachers, they could've gained a posession by snatching the ball instead.

I’d say it could be because it might be a lil more of a gamble cause if you go for the grab or snatch and you get contact with the player that definitely could be a decent chance to be a flagrant and if you go for the grab and don’t have secure positioning or handle on it on it the other team may be just get it right back but I would still like to see some more snatch blocks fasho lol

The issue is butter hands most centers have butter hands. And going for the snatch if you fail can give the opponent an easier shot, whereas knocking it out of bound with Less time on the clock can work

In general, the big knuckles gotta be on top, or a good 3/4 of the way to the top of the ball, to snatch block. Those same knuckles will almost always be on the lower half of the ball to send it into the stands. This would presumably make it near impossible to have even HAVE a CHOICE. REALLY, could more than 5% of blocks that went in the stands have been PURPOSELY aimed to stay in play instead? How often, if ever, have you seen a player make touch passes at 12' high? Skil-logically, any claim a SPECIFIC block COULD/SHOULD have stayed in play holds barely a micron of weight. A googolth of a chance of success, and a nanosecond to make the decision.

More chance for contact on the player, more chance the opposing team can steal the ball (remember centers are generally the only people doing this and they are generally the worst ball handler on the team) And also its hard to catch it so if you fail the ball goes towards the opponents which is not good

LaPhonso Ellis' block was a staple in a lot of 90s NBA videos. There have been a handful of blocks like that, but none have actually surpassed Ellis'. Even Dikembe was impressed on the play and did the finger wagging for Ellis.

Phenomenal compilation. These guys make it look so easy but these snatch blocks are next-level athleticism. They are definitely harder to do than swatting a shot. One has to account for the ball's momentum once it gets released from the offensive player; to halt that momentum completely with one (or both) hands requires extremely adept coordination. If it were easier to do, it would be more commonly seen.
