show me a car which has a sports mode and does not do anything, in most cars it mainly holds gears longer, pretty much max rev which lets it accelerate quicker. Not sure about Prius but in most automatics that is what it does

The 2nd gen one in the video doesn't have one afaik, but the 3rd gen has "eco", normal and "power" mode. All power mode does is give better throttle response. The cvt will rev up if you floor it in all modes.

Give him a newer Prius, the “wedge” is awful, the new Prius’ aren’t sports cars by any means, but they’re not dogs to drive and are great around town or for work/commuting. My brother used to drive a 330CI and now drives an Ecoboost Mustang, he still likes to drive my 2012 Prius C. Different cars for different reasons. I feel like a true “car guy” will appreciate and respect their fellow motorist’s choices. I share the road with big diesels and Corvettes, electric cars and gas guzzlers, and I don’t judge. Variety is the name of the game.

For me the roads are what makes the driving challenging, I have driven up mountains in a Chevy Cruze and it it was surprisingly enjoyable on the switchbacks I was doing this trying to recreate an issue I had when driving through Wyoming but it was still enjoyable.

james szumiloski.... shit in which way? Explain?? Every time Toyota had a problem with their cars, They recalled and extended the warranties on the part that failed. You think Bmw, Audi, VW and the domestic would warranty an oil burning engine that has 150,000 miles on it. Only Toyota does that.

I love the idea of the Prius, I have owned two. Both are reliable as hell and consistently get 45+mpg. Can't argue with that! Oil changes and tire rotations every 5k. New tires every 60k. $30 to fill up. Can't argue with that. Saves room in my wallet for me to throw at my E92 335, E39 M5, and B6 Audi S4. Every car has a purpose.

ya i wish the prius is available for a reasonable price in my country. here they would cost around $100.000 because of the stupid government tax treats it as a “dual engine” car (petrol engine + electric motor). driving beemer daily is really costly

Why do people hate the Prius lol. I understand it's not as torquey as other cars but obviously it's not because it's a hybrid car. You won't get 50+ mpg if it's a super fast car. More power = more gas. As car enthusiasts people should love prius and every car for what it is/what it's meant for. a BMW obviously for luxury,speed, or both. And a Prius for a good comfortable car that saves a lot of gas and is super reliable. As a car enthusiast I love BMW and a Prius because it's a super reliable car never has any issues and gets you 50-60 sometimes even 70 miles per gallon which is amazing. (Talking from experience I own a Prius, a 335i, and a WRX)

Fade agreed. And people say the Prius is ugly I disagree. I think it looks like a normal car lol. The Prius all the way from 2000-2015 looks nice but from 2016 they just messed it up that new one is ugly lol. Hopefully they redesign it again soon.

As mentioned in another comment, I think it mostly has to do with the old stereotype/stigma that a lot of their drivers tend to be obnoxious pricks who believe that they are better than other people just because they're 'saving the environment'.

The Prius is mechanically a fairly capable vehicle if you could reprogram the computer and upgrade the battery you probably could get decent performance out of it the electric motor can give you way more power than the computer allows it to give and I doubt the engine is tuned for power.

carbuff81 nah, that's about how I drive mine and it's got 220,000 miles, still runs great! I don't know why people poopoo the Prius, they are amazing cars, great on gas, fun to drive for what it is, and unbelievably reliable. Like I said, mine has 220,000 on the clock and has never had a screw turned on the engine or transmission.

That is excellent, well it's not just the Prius, but just about any Toyota is like that as well as Honda, as long as you keep up with them, do the required maintenance when you are supposed to, they can last a long time with no major issues. I seen a video of a Toyota Tundra that went a million miles on the original powertrain.

If you stressed about buying gas then you should only own Prius and leave the gas guzzling performance daily driven cars to real drivers who don't care if their car pisses gas like a horse. It's all about the experience and thrill of driving and not about stressing on how much maintenance and gas costs because last I checked in life you gotta pay to play.

This is the kind of attitude that gives car enthusiasts the snobby badge. Real drivers drive whatever suits their requirements and how much money they wish to spend. Not everyone wishes to splurge money because they love a certain car but it costs a lot to keep going. You won't be getting much thrill and experience except annoying ones if it keeps breaking down either :)

I love the Prius and yes there is a way to TURN OFF traction control. It is called MAINTENANCE MODE. It will also keep the engine running all the time but is bad on the hybrid system if done all the time. You can google it and follow the steps to turn off traction control

I personally love Toyota’s but some (not all) some of the Prius drivers I’ve met were an interesting breed. Some literally turn them into garbage cans on wheels, some ask you questions about your personal car and try and guilt trip you for not driving a hybrid, one guy started randomly telling me in great detail about his experience with a hooker when he was 19, and may KZbin close my account and ban me if I’m making any of this up. Get me a nice Camry, Highlander, Tacoma, Tundra any day.

I went to the Toronto Auto Show 2018 I saw a 2018 Prius so I wanted to see it cuz I've never sat in one in my life they're pretty nice the materials are really comfortable I love the nice soft material on the steering wheel and when I looked in the engine while there's not much to see what are really affordable car really cute

If he was driving that Blue 2nd generation Prius, that’s basically 76.0 hp from the Atkinson Cycle I.C.E. and another 67.0 hp from the electric traction motor. It’s no sports car BUT it does have the unusual knack of showing up standard Eurobox cars from a standing start at the lights, up to 30.0 mph 😎👍. Combined bhp works out at 110 - don’t ask!

The mechanical system could give you about 150 but the computer limits it to improve fuel economy and protect the battery. The plugin version gives you about 130 horsepower.

It's great. All speedos should be closer to where the driver's eyes are. No problems with steering wheel in the way of instruments. Not annoyingly in the middle like most other Toyotas but under the driver's eyes
