Tex Johnson did a barrel roll in a 707 just to show off, it's a one-G maneuver so as long as you have altitude to recover you can do it in basically any fixed-wing plane.

The story behind this is truly sad. Listen to the ATC recordings. It's wrong what he did, but you cannot help feeling sympathy for him at the same time. He was simply a good guy that was pushed to his breaking point and went for the ride of his life before committing suicide and not harming anyone in the process.
