What's strange about this story -- still trademark-Cabbie-crazy, but also strange -- is that Fort Devens (Ayer, Massachusetts) was indeed a large Masonic community in this timeframe -- it had grown larger-than-normal due to the transferring military staff joining (Freemasonry) every few months (when the 'Fort' was still an 'Army Fort'), and, later, due to the correctional officers and local police working the now-prison. I don't particularly believe Cabbie's jailhouse story -- but it seems like he must have come into contact with some of these Freemason guards/soldiers, even if only by word-of-mouth rumor chain, and (maybe) some of them talked to him about "redemption" or "salvation" or simply "being a better man," and he twisted that into some narrative about the-Masons-are-incarcerating-me, the-Masons-are-drugging-me.

So here’s what basically happened. Cabbie spent his time incarcerated going through several mental breakdowns. It got to the point where he was not allowed visitation (the real reason why Robin and Artie were denied seeing him) and a possible suicide attempt. At one point, he probably called Dominic and ranted about his being drugged and tortured, but Dominic had enough sense to contact the authorities and realize what was going on. This is why Cabbie is so hostile towards Dominic; cause he knows he can call him out on his bullshit. In the end, Howard was right to be concerned about Cabbie going to prison, because his delusions and mental illness only got worse. But you have to be a real asshole for no one to pity you towards the end. And in the end, Cabbie had no one but his own narcissistic delusions.

You’ve also gotta figure that, with the Cabbie shooting porno in Howard’s studio and Cabbie claiming to have a Howard sex tape and Cabbie somehow involved in the Beth Ostrosky cover-up, he was probably dropping all sorts of crazy hints like “Help me get a radio gig or I’ll XYZ” - this is almost certainly why they cut ties after prison.
