Hey Strick and Fran, if you wrap a 1/8th inch wide strip of the fuzzy side of Velcro around your bait and attach it with thin fluorocarbon line, you will catch the Manta Shrimp almost every time you lower it into their hole/tunnel. It works because the Manta's legs and claws mimmick the sticky side of Velcro. once the shrimp clamps on, he cannot let go! Guaranteed to work! Good catching and eating. Love you guys! Semper fi Master Gunny Dave, USMC retired. It's an old marine trick we used to catch them.

Hi. I have not caught manta shrimp but I have seen videos of how they do it. They use a long thin bamboo stick with a circular loop on the end made of very heavy fishing line. One end of the loop is fixed and the free end of the of the loop runs to the catcher. The bait is attached to the banboo rod about a handspan above the loop. This is then lowered into their hole. The shrimp must go through the open loop to get to the bait. Once the stick starts to be pulled down the hole, hold the stick and pull on the fishing line. THe loop then tightens around the body of the shrimp. Then just rxtract the stick and line with the shrimp. Hope it works for you. They used a number of traps at once and just scanned those that started to move. Cheers.

Tips : When you pull from your hand/wrist/arm, then you give the shrimp the info that she is being caught by a Predator. But If you relax your hand + arm + shoulder and pull from you body and/or legs, then the schrimp will not contract and contre-pull back because your pulling will be so soft and unshaking. From her point of view it will feel like a natural Flow is dragging her rather than a predator is catching her. So she will grab onto the bet but she will not contract and pull back ..!.. This way, Fran 9 Mantis 1 Notice when Fran got one at 7::40 she is not moving her arm so much and she is pulling with her legs qfd

Thank you for taking us on yet another adventure it's always fun watching you too do your thing. I have an idea though' this might be a dumb one I don't know I don't know anything about boats or the ocean, but what if you had a small refrigerator on your boat, solar powered, or use a power pack to run it, or propane, that way you could keep food a lot easier ?just an idea. and maybe some kind of alarm, motion alarm, so when you're sleeping at night if a crocodile were to come close the alarm would go off. forgive me if these are dumb ideas I come from the mountains and I know what works here so I'm just sharing some thoughts have a great week you guys.

You guys sure have a lot of fun exploring and eating off the land and ocean, those shrimp could be easy to catch with a shrimp pump, there kinda like a big bicycle pump made with PVC pipe and a rubber ball ground to fit inside with a stick attached to ball to make the suction in the water ,put it over the shrimp hole and pull.

Guys you need to put the bait up higher, you want the Mantis Shrimp to go past the hooks so when they try to go back they get hooked. The reason you lose heaps is they sit with their body below the hooks and are able reach the bait with their claws. 👍
