If this was meant for their Target year long collect to build program then that’s a lot of money lost for them, hence why the price hike on here. Which is a good theory 🤔 Still a little wild on their part and soured a lot of their collector based. Then again, this is also very telling on what could be the future for action figures at retail. An important clue to the Target theory is nobody knew this wave existed, and none of the Target waves have ever been in the leak lists. Figures and factory time slots are in place years ahead of time, if they were already manufactured they’re just eating up warehouse space and would need to be shipped asap as the rest of the shipping schedule for the year is no doubt set. So the question would be to cancel the wave altogether, release it 18 months from now at the earliest and eat the storage costs, or sell at a markup. Theres a difference between price increases and whatever this is.

A bit of anecdotal evidence to support your Target theory, they also ended the Transformer Buzzworthy Bumble Bee line that was also a Target exclusive. I wouldn't be surprised is they are ending the store exclusives fully.

I'm upset about the McFarlane Toys Crisis on Infinite Earths line is that their typical process to scan in the art for the head sculpt was NOT used! The Earth-1 Superman uses the George Perez art for the card (with awesome finishes by Jerry Ordway), but not for the head sculpt! WTF?!? I never would have thought that Todd McFarlane would have disrespected George Perez like this.

Specter is on the Martian manhunter body. supes (most of him?), psycho pirates chest, and the BAF are the only new sculpts that would need tooling. Best I can tell if it’s not that target passed because they’ve had to clearance so much of McFarlanes product in the last year, It’s gotta be that McFarlanes trying to recoup all the lost money on retail store clearance himself

mcfarlane toys must be out of their damn minds if they think these figures are worth more than a NECA. all of these figures are generic bodies with a bit of tooling (nothing new that they don't already do), minimal paint apps, and I haven't seen any accessories shown. so these are basic $20-25 mcfarlane figures being sold at a $40 price. and a wired soft goods cape doesn't justify the price either since NECA has done that with figures that are $35 and come with better sculpts, paint apps, alternate heads and hands, and a bunch of accessories. mcfarlane needs to be called out on this blatant greed.

I myself, am not a fan of McFarlane figures and rather buy premium figures when it comes to DC characters. I don't have anything against those who buy McFarlane figures, its all about what you like, but McFarlane figures are not what I want right now. The argument of price between Mezco, Mafex, and McFarlane is becoming less of a factor. They have been planning this for a while now. McFarlane has had Target exclusive figures recently that went on the shelves and were priced at $30. The so called Collectors Edition figures, Hawkman, Sinestro, Amazing Comics Superman, and Abyss. Also those figures I just mentioned had chase variants too. Just another example of McFarlane being greedy and looking to see what collectors are willing to pay. People had to beg him for years just to get a decent Wonder Woman and other heroes other than Batman. Now he finally makes a cloth cape figure and its $40 ok whatever LOL

Ive supported todd since the 90's but hes tripping now .No way im paying megafig prices for a regular 7 " figure .

Mcfarlane is putting out to much product and retailers are telling him this and this is why this wave did not go Retail. So Todd is upset and this is why we have the price increase. He is trying to prove a point. Mcfarlane toys do not sell in a whole. A lot of retailers are not carrying his product because he is dropping to much product. Again Mcfarlane is screwing his fans and not even letting them get a reach around.

This would of been a wave dictated by Warner Bros to coincide with the release of ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1’, McFarlane didn’t want to do it, so did a super minimum run and selling it exclusive. Because low Run release, price goes up. It was done to keep the licensor happy. Movie released yesterday, Toy Line announced today.

I watched “ Dc infinite hour “ last time and they had a crazy stat about the number of figures released by mcf last year, for me I think this is 1 of the reasons why this set was passed off by the retailer ( if its true) , and I think mcf should cut down the number of figures to be release thia year so they could start to recoup the losses and to make sure the retailers have time to sell the figures before another wave comes out and more importantly retailers not passing off the figures

It all started with Monolith (+25%), then the Collectors Edition-Line (+50%) and now the Build a figure-line (+60%) and with King Spawn for 50 bucks (what is insanity too) the cash grab path for normal/ deluxe figures is paved. Glad that all I have left that I want from the line is Zatanna, Det. Chimp and classic Cheetah. Part of the appeal of the line is the price point. If BAF waves jump from $25 to $40 a fig, are we to expect a $20 fig to jump to $35??? I certainly will be less inclined to buy figures that aren't of my favorite/wanted characters!!!

Agree with most of the theory, except for the reasoning behind the high price. I think the idea is to incentivize the purchase of the whole wave: the sale price of $135 combined with the 15% discount coupon (punch15, it works I used it on supes) brings the cost of the set down to $115, a little bit less than $23 per figure, very close to the price point of the regular figures.

We will find out for sure in time, but I think your theory is correct that this was the next Target BAF wave that Target passed on. I personally love this wave and did buy it but don't blame Target for passing on it, if that's what happened. Besides the Flash, I think the rest of the Flashpoint wave were big peg warmers. The $40 price point is pretty crazy but I couldn't resist these figures and the bundle and discount code did take away quite a bit of the sting. Spectre looks SO good and the BAF is absolutely sick! Not crazy about Superman's headsculpt but I think the wave as a whole looks pretty solid. I like Psycho Pirate and Kid Flash quite a bit as well. I knew right away this wasn't a price increase across the board because going from $25 to $40 for each figure of the BAF wave was way too crazy of a leap in price.

They say that Red Tornado might be a new sculpt, it could have been used on any of these (Psycho Pirate is clearly Blue Beetle though).

Red tornado is actually Alan Scott with new boots and a new head. As for these, Psycho pirate and Kid Flash are using the BB body, kid flash also has riddlers long gloves and boots from flashpoint flash, and Spectre is using the classic Martian Manhunter body with some new parts too. So most of this $40 wave is reused bodies with a few new parts. The only new ones are Supes and monitor.

I’m an overseas collector too so I’m likewise used to buying the figures at a slightly price. If the price of this wave isn’t that far off from what I usually pay for a Collector Edition in my country for example, then I might pick these up. Otherwise I’m passing on them, as much as I like Spectre and Psycho-Pirate

I feel you man, I wish I even got the chance to gawk at the high price. The first thing I did when I looked at these in the morning was to ask my local distributor and his word was a solid "Nope". And with the limited quantity and high price, this is probably the first BAF wave I skipped in recent years since I even manage to get the last 2 target BAF wave from a friend in the state. This just sucks big times for everyone, even Mcfarlane themselves because now every time someone bring up the pricing discussion, you know this will be bring up.

Glad to hear your take on it. I was hoping 40$ was just the wired and printed cape tax. Imagine my disappointment when I went to preorder Wally, lol. Here’s to hoping they’re on sale in the future. Also, I’d love to hear if you think the wired capes will be a new standard for figures.

Todd has stated that he has personally been footing the bill on the dies for these figures. I think this time he might have felt that the line is strong enough to try to carry itself. That being said, it means price increase. If you look at the sculpts of these figures, the buck for Pirate and Supes are the same. Along with the upper torso appears similiar with Flash. This leads me even more to believe that a new die was purchased. I bought the wave even with the cries, bc usually i have to toy hunt out of my area (50+ miles) and it cost be in gas, time and money. That being said, I think this will be the wave that we will hear cries later on in the year of people hating the aftermarket prices bc of this begining of the year shock.
