Excellent reference for me as a noobie to it all. I can do the basics but not very well but love to be able to do the throws and spins more effectively. Thank you for uploading it will be a massive help for me

Also, a cool trick I've seen my old PO1 do was spinning the mace above his head on the palm of his left hand while saluting with the right hand towards the commanding officer. I was not half as good as he was.

I was never fussy on that, I always felt it was a disrespectful way to salute. Looks good though.

your skill at performances is impressive. Can you halt the band with the music?

I'd be willing to bet that the answer to that question is definitely "yes."

Excellent display. However this is obviously a lighter Mace than the British Army use.

Judith Farrell Even the British Army wears lighter dancing shoes for Highland Dancing as opposed to their regular brogues. In the same logic there shouldn’t be a problem for any military drum major to use lighter mace for such special display.
@ArtyMac6 жыл бұрын
The British Army uses maces that are indeed heavier however, they are more expensive and far to precious to risk dropping. If the Grenadier Guard DM was caught doing these maneuvers with his state mace, you can bet some choice words would be said to him by his superiors.

What a silly observation. Shannon's mace is lighter than the heavier Brit maces and heavier the the lighter Brit maces. Just accept that he is very good at what he is doing.

What happens if the mace falls during a parade?

that never happens ;)

@@projet892 Never say never. At one of my Army band assignments our drum major liked to do a throw right in front of the reviewing stand. One day he missed the catch, dropped it, and had to go scrambling for it. It was pretty embarrassing. But, go big or go home, right? The reason we practice as hard as we do (and we do - I work with my mace almost daily, and I'm only a part-time national guard bandsman now) is to mitigate the chance of mistakes in our performance.

@@projet892 My granduncle(Sri Lanka Army) dropped it accidentally during the main Independence Day parade.
