Hey Jaime, What a wonderful haul that you have there. I know a bit about fossils. The Scottish fossil has a brachiopod shell on one side and the corkscrew shape on the reverse is a crinoid, or a piece of one. Crinoids are also called sea lilies or feather-stars, marine animals --echinoderms like sea stars and sea urchins.

Hey Jaimie, I love seeing all the shells that viewers send you. They are so kind to send you them after seeing how happy the shells make you. I wanted to ask you a question. Have you ever looked at sand under a microscope ? You should try it. A friend sent me some sand and shells from Florida , I looked at the sand under the scope.. The sand was made of ground down seashells and the smallest seashells anyone ever saw. Amazing !

How can you tell a shell is a fossil? I have pieces of finger coral from Sarasota FL and they look just like yours!
@PlumIslandSeaCabin
@PlumIslandSeaCabin Жыл бұрын
Hi Dale! The interior of a fossilized shell would be solid with rock (almost like concrete) and the exterior would likely have rock matrix stuck to it. It's like chalky grayish white substance. Shell fossils are dense and heavy while regular shells are light.
