I found a super rare shell and it was awesome! There were other people around me so it could have been anyone, but I think it was my time. I've been looking for this rare shell for quite some time. I'm glad we finally found each other!

I shared this with you back then, but here's a little recap. I was on a 2 week shelling trip to Florida. My last evening there I went back to the hotel to pack. I was exhausted and ready to relax. But then I turned on your video and you inspired me to go out one more time before I left. That's when my Junonia found me at South Lido Key Beach after a tractor had raked the beach and pulled up lots of shells, including my Junonia. You were so happy for me. Wow you are observant. Kice has "slowed" a little since the hurricane. I still love it, but it's making me work more than I used to. Next bucket list shells are: Any albino (especially FFC and olives), the cabrit murex, a sunrise tellin, any kind of helmet and maybe shelling in the Carolinas so I can hunt for different shells. I'm lucky that there are still so many shells out there I'd like to meet!

Oh Sharmon! What a day! A Junonia! Now won't your name get put in the newspaper for finding the Junonia? Oh, I'm SO thrilled for you. Of course that was today's highlight, but I thought the green mussels were super cool. Those nutmegs were so colorful and varied. When I come to Florida, it's definitely my goal to get some of those as well as the gaudy Nauticas and of course, a good variety of fighting conchs. I loved the lacy murexes and the white crown conch. I must mention that I have a thing for paper figs. Sounds like I need to take one of those tours when I finally get to take that trip. You'll find lots of paper figs in the high wrack line after a storm on Sanibel. I find them all over, but they seem to really like Sanibel. I hope you find bunches if/when you come!

Sharmon!! Yea! Yea! Yea!! I am soooo happy for you finding your junonia!! I have been watching you since the pandemic and it was because of you that I even realized that I had found a junonia on my only trip to Sanibel years before! I didn't know anything about shells before I started watching you so i didn't even know it was a special shell. I wish I could show you mine because it doesn't look like any other junonia I have seen. Mine is much shorter and kind of bulby kind of like the shape of a nutmeg and the spots on mine are more of a coffee color than the cinnamon color i have seen. Also one whole row of the spots are longer more like rectangles. But I still am so grateful to have it even if it is an anomaly like you have called some of the oddball shells!! I have been feeling guilty having one and not even realizing while you are at the beach so often and you weren't finding one!! Again I am so very, very happy for you!!

It took me well over a year to get my first horse conch and then this Junonia took me a LONG time. I don't mind the wait though. Anticipation can be fun too 😃 I've been watching the weather and I'm going to get up at 4am to do some low-tide night shelling tomorrow. I have a good feeling and hopefully I'll find some treasures without freezing my tail off! I hope you are in good spirits and I'm sending you love and sunshine from Florida.

I once was on a beach in Baja; there were so many sand dollars that we used them for skipping on the ocean waves. They skip 5 or more times each. The rounded side facing the water. Imagine the wealth, to be able to do that without having regrets! Love seeing those again in your video. Thanks.

Yay!!!! I am so excited for you!! Congratulations! I found my very first few sand dollars this weekend while I was at Orange Beach, Alabama at a conference for ceramics artists. I was thrilled. And it was so cold. Then my friends said let’s go to the beach and I said “oh, ok, let me fall into the ocean” trying to reach a shell my friend wanted and ended up wet up to my shoulders in 50 degree weather. 😂 Then got caught by a couple of other guests digging for dry clothes in my car while standing barefoot and soaked in the parking lot. 🤣 The things we do to go shelling!!! I made them laugh, though. And I introduced two friends to shelling and they are hooked! We’re now planning to hopefully make it down to Marco (from Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma) for a girls weekend of shelling. I was telling them about Ali’s tours and how much fun it was.

Oh no!! 50 degrees is my magical cut off - anything below that is too cold to get wet. I guess the ocean had other plans for you! A girls weekend of shelling would be unbelievable. I'm meeting my friend in Orlando and convinced her to go to the beach one day to see what we can find 🐚🐚🐚

Congrats on your first Junonia! And it was just sitting right there in the open! 27:20 I think is a Purplish Semele, the ribbing on paper cockles goes in fairly straight lines, but with this one it seems to be going outwards in a more rounded manner.

Someone else suggested the orange version of the purplish semele and I do indeed think that is what that shell is. I am definitely better at the gastropods! Thank you so much for the help!!
