Talking so openly about what you've been through, and the panic attacks, will help -and resinate with - a lot of people I'm sure. I did the overwork-burnout ten years ago and, like you, had multiple and rather strange illnesses. As an ex-racing cyclist I thought I could handle anything, but I've discovered that mental stress is totally different to physical stress and that panic attacks seem to be a warning sign that I'm not coping mentally. I hope you can get back to full fitness very soon and it's heartwarming to know you had such great support. Welcome back:-)

Great to see you back Carl, and I admire your open and honest comments on what you’ve been going through. So many people bottle it up, and others don’t recognise or understand what they are going through. One of the best ways to recover is to talk and feel supported.....here’s to the future, enjoy your fishing!

So pleased to see you guys together doing what you do best. It’s so rare so see carpers genuinely sharing the action as you did on the quarry, something perhaps pretty much unique to brothers. Good to see you have taken control of your own future now ; hopefully you can now control the pressures on your work and private life and keep enjoying it and producing your quality videos. The quarry looks a fascinating place. Good luck to you guys!

Hey James! Thanks for the comment, Alex and I often share our bites, otherwise we end up having quite unfair sessions where we both try our best but only one of us catches if the swims are way better than the other for example! Cheers for the support :) Carl

Support and fishing solves many things. Good on you chap. I've been there. I remember feeling similar years ago and my parents taking me on holiday to a venue with a lake. I hadn't fished for 10 years and just seeing the lake, millpond still, one warm summers evening brought the passion back. I picked up a rod the next day and never let go. Carp brought me back. Will never forget that day. Or the carp.

It is SO good and so important that you talk openly about panic attacks... I've been suffering from those on and off for many years and there can be a stigma attached to them. Glad you are better and, if you haven't been told already, breathing techniques and meditation can work wonders. All the best.

Thought I recognised that countryside - I started fishing after we moved to Cambridgeshire when I was 10 (1985). While the countryside wasn't much to write home about I realise now how lucky I was to have so much good fishing around me, albeit I didn't have the money to spend on much and we invariably caught bugger all! My last two sessions when I lived up there were on the Cam and I had my best ever net of fish on a river (about 60lb of mainly bream plus eels, perch, small chub etc), and my PB pike which was about 10lb. Happy days! Also, very brave to talk about panic attacks. I started suffering them a few years ago after going self employed and moving to another part of the country and taking on a bigger house. Then, just a month after buying my first ever house with my wife, my contract was canned. It's a horrible place to be when you're already not feeling too great and it can seem like they'll never end. I was in a very deep seeming hole, but things worked out in the end and being outside as much as possible did me a lot of good. Now, a year on, things are very much more settled and I've not had an attack in quite a long time. Glad to hear you're on a much more even keel now and loving life again, and it's important to remember that it's OK to not be OK. Oh and having a friend or friends who are there for you, just to talk or even just ask how you are, is worth it's weight in gold and more.

Thanks for being a brave man, and putting the issue of mental illness out there to people, young and old alike. I have anxiety attacks every now and then, and agree with you, they can be a bit debillitating. I take tablets for it now,and it has cut the attacks drastically. Top respect to you fella.
