Back in 1995, Europe went FERAL for this one. It hit #1 in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Norway, Spain and Switzerland and top 3 in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and the UK. It also reached #60 on the Hot 100.

He literally had a stutter, which is what the song is about. That if he can talk that fast in the song, what can we all accomplish if we try?

This song was MASSIVE in 1995! I was obsessed with it. Here in the UK it was a top 3 single. The story behind it is so compelling as John Larkin (Scatman) had actually spent his entire life battling a strong speech impediment. He used struggle with stuttering which affected his every day life, but when he sang, he didn't stutter. He came in to success late in life when a European producer teamed up with him to produce this song. It was so big, they produced a few more songs but they didn't hit the same heady heights that this single did. He ended up passing away in December 1999 due to his battle with cancer, literally 4 years after this single. In that time he managed to do some tours and would often talk about his stutter, and would openly support others with the same impediment. The song has gone on to find a lot of love 30 years later on social media, and recently was even remixed by the fun one hit wonder Lou Bega (of 'Mambo Number 5' fame) with a song called Scatman & Hatman. Look it up.

Still love this song after so many years. This was popular at our pub/club here for dancing in the 90’s and everyone would get up for it. Brilliant song!!

8:34 well... close. Finland - Helsinki Estonia - Tallinn Latvia - Riga A link between Finland and Tallinn is that you can take the Tallink ferry between Helsinki and Tallinn. And Estonia and Latvia borders each other, so you were in the right part of the world and of Europe but all mixed up. Also your pronunciation of Riga and Tallinn... ^^

this song was just so much fun when it came out. it rocked the Hits for Kids albums, but I think nobody could avoid smiling when this went on the radio. its just a simple song, about doing something and having fun even if you are not the best at it.
