I **really** hate to say it -- but this guy is relatively mild. I grew up playing hockey in Michigan in the 70's and 80's -- have you ever seen crowd fights between rival parents... while the kids were just standing on the ice watching it? Yes, this guy is WAY too serious (99.9% too serious), but it's unfortunately common in contact sports.

I coached youth hockey for over 10 years. That type of parent is the worst. He probably never played a single shift of hockey, but he's all over the kids, especially his son/daughter. I had one father who would constantly yell from the stands, "Get the puck!", "Shoot the puck!", "Get up!".... That knucklehead didn't know 'off-sides' from 'icing the puck', yet he was in the stands yelling the whole game. By the way, his son was an 8 year old, 2nd year player, on a Youth Developmental team. Mindboggling.

I witnessed the same behaviour of a 'soccer Dad AND Mom' at a house league children's soccer game years ago. The 'soccer parents' were from Europe originally and it was blatantly obvious they had FIFA membership on the horizon for their kid. The boy was an exceptional player yet he never went beyond playing the expensive 'local rep' league in his late teens. By that time the kid never went on to College or University because the parents had pissed all their money away on soccer.

It's really quite sad when you see parents acting like this in the stands with no other parents sitting near them. We obviously know that you never got the chance to play the game when you were younger or you would understand this is not normal! No matter what the game is being played, if one knows the game you would know how to be a spectator. This is the reason there is a shortage of volunteer coaches and why the new referees have to wear a green band on their arm. Sad.

If you think that is bad....there was a mom who probably never even seen a hockey game before screaming at the ref to kick some kid out of the game from the first puck drop....the kid played clean the entire game but....he was much better than the players on her son's team....then her son who has no business being in a 2011 major division of the HSL performed a move that I saw him practice repeatedly....as him and this other kid were going for the puck, he waits until the better kid is close enough and then turns his back to him and jams on the breaks...the good player tried to avoid him but couldn't....so the ref kicks the kid out of the game and then comes over to the bench and explains to the kid's coach that he knows it was unintentional and not malicious and he'll put that in his report....but...then the kid's dad emails his friend (the guy in charge of disciplinary action) and the good kid gets suspended for 2 games on top of getting kicked out of that game. The kid that rehearsed the play to get the good kid kicked out is very small and very unskilled and one of the weakest players on the worst team.... the team has no business being in that division either...he's underage but his dad is the assistant coach....he wouldn't even be a good player in his appropriate age group.....they all think they're going to be in a movie I think lol but they aren't lol.... good old politics
