In that type of aircraft (not stol) that is basically what you have to do. I don't think an airport like this would ever be certified as a continental airport, on this island this was likely the best locale without building an artificial island which would have been cost prohibitive.

My best friends dad who´s a now retired pilot used to say " there are good pilots, great pilots and then there are pilots that can land at St. Barts ( translated). He landed 8 Times at St. Barts and he said its the most difficult place to land he has seen in his pilot carreer of almost 35 years.

So I didn’t have the greatest attention to detail back then as my vids didn’t get that many views. People make mistakes I doubt your perfect. And I do fly planes in real life! And it’s going great!

Tobias MacIvey yes you do need attention as a pilot but unfortunately nameing a video and piloting are two VERY different things. I'm the worst at spelling but yet I'm still working on my pilots license. There a lot of things I don't pay much attention too because it's not needed but I still pay as much attention to flying as I can. Nameing a video on a small chanel just doesn't require as much attention to detail as flying does. So therefore you just can't connect the two together like that and assume that someone not paying attention to how things are spelt in a KZbin video title can't fly a plane.

To avoid a collision between landing (low approach) planes and car traffic they should install a traffic light system which could be operated by the control tower. Safety first!!

@@calyodelphi124 maverick ? nope that was a real pilot doing his thing lol.. gotta respect the skills of aviators it's as normal as breathing to him.. I think the low approach gives him a little more margin of error, if he can pull it off, he lands short and has more runway to play with.. especially if he's heavy , it's a good trade off.. The angle of the grass is essentially the glide slope of even if you bump a wheel it's not the end of the world..it may bump you off the slope, so add power go around ..still it's a crazy place, and flying that low , well, im sure he could have added another ten feet for safety margin..he either has a camera on the nose gear, or knows that plane like the back of his hand.. Also it's no wonder the pc12 leads the class, always thought of it as a modern fast ant2 that had sex with a porter..

My guess would be that it's just a matter of the prevalent wind direction for landings. If you have strong winds from ~10° most of the time the approach speeds and stopping distances might be just too long on runway 28. There was a crosswind in this video, so I suppose they could have landed either way that day. Taking off on runway 10 would be mandatory, though, since you would have a hard time clearing that hill on climbout. ;)
