Good info. I find those prices to be less than what I pay for the same items here in California. For example, a 6 pack of Coke is 141 THB ($4 USD), 10 slices of cheese is 176 THB ($4.99 USD). 750ml Grey Goose Vodka, 1344 THB ($38 USD). As far as I am concerned, I'd rather enjoy Thai food affordably, and western food at less than what i am currently paying. See you over there soon ;)

Fun video. The Natural Chip Co chips are normally 5 bucks (118 Baht) here in Aus, but they're often on sale. If I ever wanted some familiar foods, I'd just say what the hell and enjoy it.

compared to the prices in Germany the things in Thailand are more expensive. for instance Ham cost you 100g = 96THB, Kellogg's 500g = 115THB , Cheese is much cheaper even milk is cheaper or at least equal. 10 eggs are about 75 Baht here in Germany. Only when you eat Thai food on the street or market you can live cheap in Thailand. Best regards.....

Yep, that's how it is. At least you can easily obtain these items in Thailand. Win some, lose some. Quality isn't cheap in Thailand at all, except for a quality massage maybe.

These items are not really quality. I have been using them all my life, and like I wrote above, 99.9% of them are not tasty. People get fooled by the brands and branding and totally forget to judge them based on their taste. Healthy is good, but healthy without good flavour is money thrown away. By the way, I have been a vegan for the past two years, and I tell you that vegan food is even worse, and for this reason I have not had a good meal in two years

went to a gourmet market in bangkok and was shocked at how high the beef prices were. japanese food at don don donkey was not much more than japan prices. i live in japan so i know the prices. i believe gourmet market is more upscale than tops. We get imported beef from new zealand here in japan and my wife says its cheaper than japan premium cut beef. i prefer nz beef because its less oily. we are a 7 hour flight from nz btw

Is raw meat like chicken and pork even cheaper in Thailand than America? How much per kilo right now? I know beef is more expensive but chicken pork and even fish could be cheaper due to the production capacity there. You could be getting higher quality chicken if you're buying locally but not these super markets like Tops that source from factory farms also.

But think, cheap as u buy the food the ingredients for the food are also cheap and not the highest quality. But its right imported food its very expensive but higher quality then the standard thai products. If u buy high quality thai products, the price also rise.

Honestly, this doesn't seem that exorbitant for the imported goods. Ben and Jerry's are ~$5 at my local Walmart (West Coast US) and $7 at 7-11 now. It must be refrigerated in transit and is crossing the entire United States from Vermont as well as the Pacific Ocean. After taxes, adding a margin of profit for the store, paying for the thousands of kilometers it was in refrigerated transported, this isn't bad. Those Aussie goods also had to travel a great distance too. These are luxurious foreign items at this point. You don't go to Prada or Tiffany's looking for good deals. FWIW, I haven't bought Ben and Jerry's in the US in years because it's expensive and I'm not rich. Most Americans keep better grocery store brands like Tillamook if they want to splurge, but they are half the price of Haagen or B&Js. Those are yuppie kibble even in the US.

I love Thai food and I eat it everyday but make no mistake this is peasant food. The carb to protein ratio is heavily skewed towards rice which is a very cheap grain. When they say "gin khao" they really mean it. You're eating primarily rice with a little bit of egg and meat as a flavoring but the majority is just rice.

😊 During a recent trip to Thailand, I couldn’t help but notice a stark difference in the quality of the food compared to my memories from 12 years ago. I vividly recall indulging in delicious fried rice with plump, flavorful shrimp. But now, the shrimp seem pale and scarce, with barely three on a plate if you’re lucky. It’s disheartening to find that even in its place of origin, Thai food doesn’t taste as good as it does back home in the UK. However, I’ve discovered a workaround - shopping at markets like Markro and cooking at home. Not only is it more affordable, but you can also eat like royalty for a fraction of the cost in the UK. Eating street food may seem tempting, but it’s unlikely to offer the quality you’re hoping for.

@@markpic9 like for like when comparing street food either in shopping malls, food courts or on the street, the overall taste has gone down along with the portions. It’s very easy to compare £1.50 to say £7 which is what I pay for an equivalent in Leeds. The portion in Thailand is around 3 x less than what I’ve had here. £1.50 is now £4.50. for a country where most low skilled workers are being paid £300 a month whereas here from April it’s £1700 food ain’t cheap. Even Thais agree the food portion is too small and spent a lot more than you think, plus obesity has seriously taken off, just like in the UK.
