Hi Chris! Thank you for all the efforts. One issue that was not discussed was whether a stay exceeding 180 days (whatever the number of entries) in a calendar year will lead to tax liability, but I suppose we just have to assume that, at least in theory, you have tax obligations in Thailand if you stay longer than 180 days. This visa, at least as it was announced, does bring legal clarity and the right to work in Thailand for foreign employers, which is great, but whether there's tax liabilities beyond that period of time is something I haven't seen addressed. If anybody from the Consular is reading these comments please consider revising the rules for residency next. There are many of us who are married to Thai citizens and have lived, worked, and payed taxes here for many years, yet it's still very hard to get residency. Could you consider automaticly granting residency if certain criteria are met? If somebody is married, has stayed for X years or payed X Baht in Tax then they are granted a residence visa automatically for instance. I realise your main focus is tourism, but we also contribute greatly to the economy and the annual Non-Im O visa with 90 day reporting is very inconvienient. Thank you.

Thanks for the confirmation on the 180 day rule. This is far more generous than I originally thought. I just got my approval for the new Destination Thailand Visa today. I submitted it on the new web site originally on July 3, then they asked for more documentation on July 30: a fresh financial statement, my Spanish ID card, my plane ticket (which is a Catch-22 and a whole different problem...) and a portfolio of my work so I put together a PDF of my latest prototyping projects. I got the approval today, categorized as a freelance software designer. So I'm good for stretches of 180 days in-country for the next 5 years which is perfect for my needs. This is a big change from my old Thai O-A visa which required $24K stuck in a local bank account, a local health insurance policy, paying for a visa extension and re-entry permit every year, and a newly imposed tax on funds brought into Thailand. The whole process took 2 months but I'm sure they got a flood of applications. Mine was handled by the embassy in Madrid.

Chris, Good interview. If you ever have another meeting the DDG or better, with the Immigration Department, please question them on the necessity of TM47 (90 Day Reporting). Division 1 is now requiring in-person reporting "Your application for "STAYING LONGER THAN 90 DAYS" has been rejected. For first-time requests of a 90-day notification in each country visit, in-person presentation at the immigration office is required." It's a pain in the butt how often they flip flop at Division 1. All the best to you.

First time report upon entry has always been in person, the following reports were in person or by mail, what's new is online reporting.
@HelloRichard4 ай бұрын
@@spiritedguy2 Been doing mail-in and online reporting since they started enforcing TM47 about 8 years ago. Only had to do in-person once when I got a new passport. All other times when I go out of Thailand and come back, online reporting worked. But not now. Division 1 rejected my whole family because we went to Lao and came back and I plan to go out again next month. So it's another in-person reporting to Division 1.

@@spiritedguy2furthermore, what do you think of the necessity of TM47 reporting? Pretty ridiculous right?

So 5 or 6 days a year hanging out with Cardinal Sin in the PI and it's back to Thailand to start anew - same visa. Bless you my son ! (before someone feels the need to remind, the good Cardinal has moved on to a better place and I'm 65 - not a candidate for this visa but always keen to keep abreast of changes in the LOS.)

Fabulous presentation Chris and thank you to both of you for helping us understand the new DTV Visa. You told us so! 😁

13:20-13:40 for an extension within the kingdom sounds like you need to show again your proof of portfolio. But if you leave before the 180 days and re-enter that you do not. So in theory as I see it, one could get DTV in cooking, language classes, etc for the 5 years with only one proof of portfolio (the original) as long as you bounced out before the 180 days was up and re-entered for another 180 days. If so, I see a lot of abuse. I too am one that thought originally that it was only for 180 days and then only one 180 extension in the 5 years as no one could explain it otherwise. Thank you for that clarification.

Plus if other visas are to go by, you can leave just before your visa expires, come back in the day before the visa expires and get another 180 days, so it's a 5 and a half year visa, actually 6 years as you can do another extension.
