At 17:00 doesn't Bf1 just win here? It guards g1 from the rook and there's no way for white to take the checkmating pieces. Maybe Rc8 since the bishop stops defending that square, but I think it should be okay after the rook trade and Rg8

Eric, I’m no good at chess so this line might not make sense, but at 29:16 you claimed that white couldn’t play G3 because of QxF3, but if that move occurs then couldn’t white play Be4 which kicks out the queen and you cannot take because if you take with the rook white retakes with queen, forcing a queen trade or they just win the knight and then they’re in arguably a better position since they’re up material before this attack started?

At 17:40 is bishop F1 a winning move? I'm not very good at chess and don't have time to calculate before my break is over. Seems from there white is forced to take bishop and be down their queen or take rook and king gets chased until it gets to f column where the black queen and dark square bishop are protecting it surprisingly well. Anything but that seems to be queen g2 covered by dark square bishop or if they take light squared with rook you just take back with queen and mate.

28:40 funnily enough I actually found Nf4 and saw the idea of mate on g2. But then I saw that after e5 black's queen cannot get on either g5 or g6 so I kind of threw Nf4 out. I completely didn't see that you can afford an extra tempo with Qe6 and still have the tactics work.

Was Queen D7 at 16:34 a blunder? I see a line, but don't know if I'm disregarding something important. I was looking at a pin with Bishop B5 that would serve as both a threat to the rook/queen, but also a trap for a back-rank mate depending what White does.

Probably a dumb question - I´m very new at this - but is bishop to f1 viable at 17:26? The rook can´t take because q takes f1, mate, he probably would have to ease the pressure . Unless I´m not seeing some offensive line for mate in 1 for white or just making the black king run every move, it seems playable, no?
@leadnitrate2194
@leadnitrate2194 4 жыл бұрын
After white plays Rh6+ Kg8 Qe6+ black has to trade queens with Qf7. Because if you go to f7, then Qd6+. Now if you go to e7, stockfish says it's forced mate in 9, but anyway it would get uncomfortable with ideas of ladder mate. If you trade queens, of course black is winning because of the two extra pieces, but I guess Eric wanted to play for mate.
