If Penny never got injured, he easily could have been one of the greats. He was 6'8 with handles better than Magic. He could score, shoot, was athletic and can DO everything. Big respect to young Kobe challenging Penny.

Penny’s unfortunate injuries definitely robbed us of some epic battles between the two. I honestly feel a friendship would have eventually grown from it, the competition. Penny was a quiet assassin and Kobe was more blatant with it. They probably had more things in common than they would have thought, including co-starring with Shaq. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Respect for them both.

If my calculations are correct. Kobe was 18 and Penny was 21-22. Both were very young men at the time. BTW, I thought a man was not considered in his physical prime until 26-27.
