I agree. I hated her character. Cheats on Cal and then self-righteously craps on him for being a womaniser when he gets it on with nine women after they separate. Maybe he wouldn’t have become that way if she hadn’t cheated. What a self-righteous hypocrite.

Some b*lls on the ex-wife to be calling Cal disgusting. When she is the one who cheated while in a Marriage. What he did was after the Marriage was torn by her and he was a free man. Not sure if they divorced or not, but my point stands.

Yea , that's my whole issue with this movie , that even in the end it somehow falls to Cal to fix the problems and how his son and daughter both look at him like he was the problem on the story. I can understand Relationships getting stale but if you really want to you would try to talk about it and fix it. Not just have an affair and then get a divorce and then go out of your way to judge and be so entitled to the circumstances that is your fault. I hated the ending of the movie becaus of the implication that Cal had to learn to be a better man for his relationship with his wife and to win back the appreciation of his family and show his son that true love exists. Overall the comedy is great but the way they write Juliann Moore and all the stuff that connects to her character and her role in the plot just doesn't work for me. Normally we get movies where the guy cheats and gets his cumappance in the climax. Rarely doe we get good Rom-Coms where the woman does it and actually has to pay for what she did..

Gaslighting 101. All women do that. If we cheat we’re pigs and marked public enemy No 1. If they cheat it’s because we neglected them and they were just looking for validation from someone else. There’s no win lol 😅

Julianne Moore plays a lot of characters who kind of "walk through water," in the sense that no true consequences happen for the things her characters do in movies, and this is a good example. In the beginning of the movie, her character Emily wants a divorce admitting she cheated on him with a co worker. Then more or less forces him to move out, and her friends choose her cutting off contact from Steve's character Cal. Then she acts self righteous and hypocritical when she finds out Cal slept with other people rather than being a monk or something lol. Then in this scene she tries to be a mother by taking Hannah's side BUT Cal had ammunition for Emily since she did destroy their lives epically.

It’s interesting how throughout the film they try to portray the idea that the wife is somehow the victim when she’s actually the villain and it’s very clearly shown how her way of thinking and operating doesn’t work she tries blaming cal for something that’s ultimately and completely only her fault to begin with it never was his fault for any of it and he’s basically needlessly put through a situation that was unnecessary and the wife blames him because it’s always easier for the wife to blame him than to be an adult for once and take accountability hence why he treats her like a child because that’s how she acts so that’s what you deserve and what he says to her at the end is rightfully deserved I would’ve said worse tbh

He’s no better than Jacob and is acting like a complete hypocrite….. he willingly became a womanizer mainly to spite his ex (not saying that’s a bad thing cause she 100% deserves that) and he greatly enjoyed it until his own daughter became involved! So Cal has *zero* right to disapprove of Jacob solely for being a womanizer given his own actions…. plus his adult, independent daughter knows what she is doing!

In retrospect, it was a bit too obvious that Emily and Hannah, the only two characters who were redheads, would turn out to be related, kind of spoiling the twist. It's still an enjoyable movie, though.

Exactly. It's so obvious that we don't even consider it with all the other plotlines going on. Everyone's got their own thing happening and the script is so tightly made that they don't give us the time to figure out the secret until they're telling us. That's why it's so great 💯💯💯

Why do people cheat?!! I understand that feelings may change with time, that one may fall in love for the second time with someone else, but why cheat!!! End the relationship, set free the other person too and then go live your life! When you cheat, you are just being selfish, no matter how your partner treats you, selfish and coward cause you want both lives and not fighting for any of them!
