Jake, you need to shake this off. It is part of the sport. We all want to make quick kills and watch them fall. It doesn't always work that way. I am so proud of THP for working as hard as you did to make this recovery. Most hunters would have written it off and moved on. You guys are respectful and ethical. You should hold your head high. You all worked hard to finish the job and see it through. This is a lesson in respect for the game we all chase. Well done my friends.

My favorite part about THP is that they take you on the blood trail with them, I always hated when hunting shows shoot something and show you a few specs of blood and then recovery. With you all I feel like I'm right there with you helping you track it. The drama is real, the highs and lows of tracking is some of my favorite aspects of hunting. Appreciate that

Your style of hunting is exactly how SMART public land hunting is done. I've learned to hunt public multiple ways over the past 30 yrs, which is why I think so many people connect with the hunting public plus hunters just getting started or trying to learn how to hunt public land can can really learn a lot from watching your group work together and how you can go about breaking down pieces of land to focus on where the deer are and how they're moving through pressured public land to give people the knowledge to get out there learn and figure it out for themselves, which in the end is the most rewarding part of it all, when it all comes together 🎯

You guys are on a roll. Also ide like to say you are becoming the face of hunting. Your entertaining,educational, and honest. More of the shows should stop and take a minute and learn some lessons from you guys. Also is there a video on what broadheads you guys use i want to go with a heavier setup next year. Keep the videos coming.

THP guys: This may be the absolute most valuable video y'all have EVER posted. We've all heard that we learn the most from our "failures," rather than our successes. And while this definitely is NOT a "failure," the point is similar: When everything goes perfect it's fun and wonderful and everyone feels good, but...really...how much do those experiences really teach us? THIS video covered SO many important aspects of hunting that EVERY hunter will experience if he/she hunts long enough. You guys are an inspiration and I haven't seen another channel on KZbin that presents deer hunting in a more positive light. Just yesterday I watched a video where Greg somehow managed to kill a trophy while manipulating his own camera work, then this morning I saw Aaron pay homage to a big bruiser he killed near a road, and I'm ending my day with a video showing Jake reveal his soul to the world after doing ALL ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY DO in such a challenging situation. I just can't say enough about you guys (and the gals that support yall!).

I know you feel like you have to defend the way you hunt but you guys all have your own style. If yall hunt long enough there will be shots you wish you could take back and do over but as all true hunters know you learn from and move on. You gentlemen are some of the most honest and down to earth hunters I have the pleasure of watching. I myself have harvested 46 buck in 49 years of hunting and countless doe and i have made shots that i would like to have back. The ones i have lost are 7, 4 buck and 3 doe of those 2 buck and 2 doe survived. I track for others now and actually have a real good recovery rate. So forget the haters its not worth your time keep up the entertaining and educational videos and by the way i didnt mean to keep Mindi out sorry.

Nice job guys. You guys are really hard on yourselves. Hind sight is 20/20, yes, shot could have been a little more forward. Congrats!

It's that part that makes me take my gun out usually, rather than the bow. I would never let an arrow go at a deer if it wasn't pretty much first thing in the morning. And for sure no marginal shots. It's just not ethical to have an animal walking around wounded, or taking hours to die.

That goes to show you need a better broadhead, a deers hide is tough to cut through anyways and then you had bone to that and meat it's hard enough killing one with a gun, but we all owe it to the game we hunt to make a killing shot, it's hard to try to sharpen your broadheads like the ones you are using it's like sharping a knife if you can't get an edge on it then it want cut, it may shave your hair off your arm but go out and try to cut something else it want cut it. But I'm glad you didn't give up Congratulations!!!

A marginal shot and poor choice in broadhead usually ends that way. I would have thought the poor blood trails y'all have been getting would change your mind about them by now. Yes they work well with good shots and so does everything else. It's those marginal shots you base your broadhead choice on. I've been bow hunting over thirty years and have shot every type of head design out there. I knew you had set yourselves up for poor blood trails and hard to find deer.
@TheHuntingPublic
@TheHuntingPublic 4 жыл бұрын
Curious what you recommend for a broadhead. We’re always trying to learn!
@jeremyball6493
@jeremyball6493 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHuntingPublic a strong fixed blade that penetrates and flies well but still has good cutting diameter Ramcat hydroshock. Regardless what you go with give yourself the advantage of a bigger wound channel. Sharp single bevel cut small slice that is easier to clot up. That's why stinger buzzcuts have the bleeder blades, it increases their effectiveness. Broadhead design has evolved for a reason. It's all about hemorrhaging and that comes from big wound channels that are harder to clot.
@TheHuntingPublic
@TheHuntingPublic 4 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Ball we’d agree there on some things. Will put out a video with all of our observations after the season. We all used to believe the same logic you present here but have since found some other data that adds more complexity to the issue.
@jeremyball6493
@jeremyball6493 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHuntingPublic I didn't present logic. I gave information that came from trial and error that's the results of a bow hunting career that's extended longer than most of your crew has been alive. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, stay humble. You are not doing anything that thousands of other people haven't already done before you. Look back at your own video documented data it'll tell you all you need to know. The concern of no blood trails has been voiced more than a few times. Don't trust data if it doesn't align with your in the field results. You have the opportunity it be a great source of field based independent data but you have to lead and not follow. I do appreciate the response it shows you are still in touch with your audience, thats what a lot have lost. I enjoy the channel and its more average Joe approach. I wish you good luck and favorable winds and look forward to future content, stay safe out there.
@TheHuntingPublic
@TheHuntingPublic 4 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Ball we actually aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. We appreciate your opinion. Most of the stuff we’re using now is similar to what bowhunters were using back in late 80s and 90s. Heavy arrows with more weight in the front and super sharp broadheads. That’s what our mentors shot before us and taught us to use before we eventually switched to mechanical heads and had some bad experiences so we’ve gone back to it. We simply tell people our opinions on our experiences. We aren’t pretending to be some kind of experts. Just showing people honest experiences from our hunts and what we took away from them.

I watched that masterpiece targets video segments they taught me alot about impact shots. Everyone should check it out even if you are a veteran hunter doesn't hurt to expand your mind.

Congrats, Jake! Nice teamwork and finish shot. Nothing to be bummed out about. If you deer hunt long enough, THIS is going to happen. Way to go, guys ... and Mindi. And nice job filming. Thanks for sharing.

So happy that you guys took the time to focus on the shot and the follow up. It cannot be overstated how much the slightest angle changes everything in bow hunting. Glad it worked out.

I think everyone of you guys should do something nice for Mindy. She's such a team player she's there for every drag every search. And makes sure you guys are fed plus whatever she does behind the scenes. Thanks Mindy and good luck guys.

Well done with keeping the search till you find him. That proves that even with bowhunters as good as you guys, sh*t happens sometimes! Great content as always.

Best video this year. Not what you want to see,but what you need to see. The feeling that Jake shows for hunting and what comes with it is great. You can tell alot about someone and how they were brought up hunting on their actions. Thank you guys for being ethical hunters.

Hunter safety course in Oklahoma well when I went through in the late 90s had a cutaway deer that showed everything from front to back. Heart to anus basically.

Unfortunately that is part of hunting in general. Even hunters with rifles make bad shots. That’s how we learn. You stayed persistent & was able to locate your deer & finish him off. At least he didn’t get taken out by coyotes & truly suffer a horrible death. Great job & team work.

Hey guys,thanks for the link to the deer vitals video. I watched all of it. I’ve skinned many deer & hogs and never realized how much the lungs inflate & fill up the body cavity & also the actual position of the heart. It sheds new light on shot placement. Keep up the good work.

I hope they keep putting it together like they do and don’t get boxed into a deal with a company. Sometimes, companies want to make something “better”, and they just kill it because they don’t get it.

On 10-18-19 I shot a buck low and back in archery season.. tracked him almost 400 yards backed out went back the next day and still couldnt find him. Yesterday 11-30-19 a hunter on my property shot him in the same bedding area on opening day of rifle season and finished him off. The shot I took on him quartering to me I thought was a good shot but it missed lungs and hit low in the guts and stuck into his back leg by the knee. I hit him behind the shoulder but after actually looking at the deer and seeing what the arrow did inside I realized I should've hit him in the shoulder or even right in front of the shoulder to hit vitals. A shot in archery needs to be almost perfect but this happens to each and every one of us.
