I wish people could just be happy for other people. I blame the hunting industry as a whole for the jealousy. The average hunter is being priced out, if you’re not a ( sponsored pro hunter ) that shoots a monster like this Buck, Jonny King , Hanson, or anything like these. You don’t get a fair shake. And I completely agree that politics in hunting is ruining hunting. I hope everything works out for this young man.

This is exactly why I have never had a deer scored and never will. I have killed some nice bucks, nothing even close to being world class. But if I ever do I will not allow it to be scored. The idea of someone calling his self an antler collector, and asking to buy my rack would piss me off. My deer are worth more than any amount of money to me. I hunt for enjoyment and food. And could care a less, what anyone thinks of what I decide to put my tag on. All this makes me hate the “hunting industry” and the laws that are in place and the folks who enforce them. Anyone who doesn't know that a deer will travel 10+ miles at any point for many different reasons has never had the privilege of hunting mature whitetail bucks in the snow in the Great Lakes region. I hunt in rural northwest PA. My hunting partners and I have tracked mature bucks in the snow that have gone 19, 17, 16 miles, and many others 10+ miles. We have trail cameras out, and when a buck we are targeting walks in front of a camera during a November snowfall, we follow it. We call it a "take me around your world tour." And these bucks know EXACTLY where they are at the entire time. They go straight to buried scrapes and uncover them, and then do the same thing 10 miles away 4 hours later. They aren't searching for these scrapes, they walk straight to them. They know exactly where they are. If you don't believe me, I don't care. Look at Penn States biology department's GPS location studies on over 200 wild bucks from year one. Every 20 minutes their entire lives, these bucks ping their GPS location to a satellite. You will see how far they go... especially during the rut... or when overhunted or even spooked once by a hunter... even a DA hunter. The bull sh*tters saying a deer won't move if he feels safe. Stop the bull sh*t. That Penn State study showed us all that ALL DEER ARE INDIVIDUALS AND DIFFERENT. You can't say one or most deer did this, so this deer would have done that. You need a much better case than anything pointing to the deer traveling. Michael Waddell shot a mature buck in Kansas that had a GPS collar on it on an episode of Road Trips. He contacted the wildlife organization that had the GPS collar in this deer. This buck had a CONTINUOUS home range of elliptical shape that spanned 11 MILES... not even being pressured as most of the buck's range was on a wildlife preserve. Michael had bought the property next to the preserve on purpose. Any person who considers the distance any deer could move as reason to call a hunter a liar or poacher, that person is ignorant by the very definition of the word. By the way... the furthest one of the deer in the Penn State GPS study traveled... 70 MILES. Educate yourselves people. You'll be better hunters... and better people.

I’m very invested in this whole ordeal because I want it to be an honest harvest. I know CJ doesn’t have the best personality but he is very consistent. I think he clears up a lot of controversy. I have deer where I don’t think to take photos right away, mostly because my friends just aren’t interested. In the other podcast he said he didn’t have Facebook or anything like that, which tells me he doesn’t have many friends before this harvest. He also doesn’t have prior photos of other deer on his socials so he probably doesn’t care to share them as much as a modern hunter. He knew about meta data and wasn’t bothered by the fact that they wouldn’t find anything in his phone. Most investigators use a cellbrite to retrieve any deleted data from a phone. I think whoever is investigating this is reaching. The thing that bothers me the most is the forfeiture of the phone and deer. I’m not saying this will happen but who’s to say they won’t contaminate evidence in their favor. Any good defense attorney will have this case tossed, guilty or not. A “stick, two knifes, and a backpack”. Screams explicit bias, and we as a hunting community are not helping with that. Trying not to be jaded about this, good luck regardless of the verdict. Another thing to touch on is about half of all fawns are twins. Example even if they proved the blood in those knifes to be related they would have a tough time proving it. the sheds found 5 years earlier clearly are the same genetics again hope he has a good defense attorney.

Story is a simple and timeless one…jealousy. It’s funny, we Hunter’s represent such a minuscule part of the overall population…true trophy hunters smaller still. Yet, with every big deer that’s killed, there is a scandal. It’s actually comical if you get it. From a mathematical standpoint, almost literally, no one cares…save this small fraction of marginalized guys here. Our sport is under siege. Our way of like is under siege everywhere, every day…and this is what we spend our time on. I’m glad I’m not a young guy starting out. As much as I love for this sport…I’d encourage them to find something else. For this and myriad other reasons, I do not think hunting is long for this world…at least as we know it.

I know what I just listened to was only one side of the story but I believe CJ. A lot of it is because he seemed so straight forward and was willing to talk about with y'all. But that's not really what made me believe him. The stick and the two knives doesn't make sense. If CJ is so smart to pull this off how would he make a mistake like leaving that kind of evidence behind. Also why two knives? I'm guessing the second knife would have belonged to his buddy. So not one but two guys lost their knives? Also a DA would know how to plant evidence. I think the buck was probably from the DA's property or at least spent some time there and he's just jealous that someone else killed what he considered to be "his" deer. Antler configuration is very complex. When a buck is older & grows a huge 8 point rack with a body that matches it usually makes him king of his domain. However a buck sprouting out all kinds of points with tine length much more likely will suffer with beam length. That is the case with that 8×8 from Oklahoma. But 2 huge 8 points will fight until 1 runs away. When a huge 8 fights with a slightly narrower 10 or 12 point mainframe deer they lock up & can't separate & die. So big typical deer will always most likely rely on being a large 10 or 12.

Hey guys Thanks for the podcast enjoyed it. I been bowhunter 60 yrs and If I had the chance to harvest a buck like that I would keep it to myself my reason is because I hunt for me and except for my close friends and family no one needs to know. I feel it tarnishes the animals existence by going for a record or making money off its life and I know it would have been harvested legally and If anyone tried to prove me wrong It would really discussed me. And like I said originally I dont hunt for anyone but myself and dont want my credibility challenged just for recognition. I hope they get to the bottom of the true story of this buck so his life was not for nothing. Safe hunting and good luck

I mean at this point who would want to harvest a record whitetail today just to have your entire life history put on blast because of social media. We see the shaming and ridiculous hoops CJ is having to deal with. Plus the whole Milo Hansen buck as well as the scorer that got fired by B&C. Not to mention at the end of the day B&C will decide if the deer is the new record or not based on the person that took the deer.

I hunt northeast Arkansas and the very first hunt I had of the year was in November, I had borrowed a stand, got in it late, busted a deer out on way in, everything was going wrong. My ass hits the seat and I hear a deer walking. Comes straight out in front of me broadside 15 yards. Biggest buck I’ve seen on the hoof. Too shocked to shoot honestly and didn’t think I could draw without him seeing me so I didn’t want to spook him out in hopes he’d come back. But still. Sometimes shit goes wrong and you get lucky or whatever you want to call it. And the opportunity to hunt just came up because I had gotten permission on a place. So I was in a hurry to get to hunting and I’m pretty sure I not only forgot my phone that morning because I was hyped about getting to hunt, but I forgot some pieces of gear. You can believe this guys story if you’re a fella who has his same luck lol. Sure some of it cast doubt, but it’s definitely not impossible. That being said, something just comes across as fishy with this guy. It definitely seems like it’s not 100 percent up to snuff.

Can someone make a replay to the video the way the story was told so we can laugh at how dumb this would look in today's age..... dropped off by wife, with buddy's climber stand ive never used before and his crossbow never used before, no cell phone, .... sounding like a not very serious hunter.... but we sit all day for the hunt to show our dedication to the sport.... i somehow think 10 acres of land is 30 but i shot the deer at 6 yards.... ok ok as long as i get to measure lol😅... the recovery process is funny too me, 100 percent your video taping, we all have phones, the rig comment was over the top ridiculous... honestly any educated hunter that's serious about this, doesn't believe you one but. You don't get lucky in these types of bucks, deer drives possible... definitely not just hearing a noise behind you and ranging it at 100 yards? Just don't think this story seemed legit at all....

I live in Southern Indiana, and I watched a deer swim across the Ohio river from KY.to Indiana, probably three quarters of a mile, no problem! During the rut they move like crazy. I don’t hunt anymore, but I hunted a typical 12 for 3 years, until someone shot him at night with a rifle, and cut his head off! He was moving about 3 to 14 miles a week! To answer the question about pictures, I shot a 140 deer, when I was 60, I didn’t take a picture until I got him home, I was worn out from dragging him! As long as you’re discussing L.E.O.s check out what’s going on in southern Indiana, in Clark County, with our ex sheriff!

I have my doubts. This deer traveled approximately 12 miles ( as the crow flies) passed over 50 houses/properties, through and around a state park and lake, just to leave the area where it grew up a giant and had all the does and food it wanted. Meanwhile no one got a single picture of the deer on its trek. There is hardly any properties these days not being hunted or that doesnt have trail cams running. Dont get me wrong, i know deer travel but that distance is absurd. Pull it up on the map. Not to mention all the other red flags.
@DocAllen42410 ай бұрын

@RJ-wr8db10 ай бұрын
I listened to his original podcast on HUNTR and this one. He is much more descriptive now. Only my opinion, but I think he shot it legit, but I think he retrieved it off of the neighbors property. Originally said his sisters land was 30 acres, now admits it is only about 8 acres. If he gut shot that buck it is not likely that is stayed on that 8 acre piece especially if he had to remove a climber. Very noisy and if likely to jump the deer in a small 8 acre piece. I think he saw it go on the neighbors after he shot it - remember he said you could see right through the tree line to the ag field - and then he and his buddy went and got it after dark. The biggest red flag is that he did not take any pics when they recovered it. That to me is HUGE. The first thing every hunter I know does is take photos to capture the hunt and the deer. I cannot remember the last time I shot a big buck and did not take photos of where it fell. And especially something this huge. I would also like to know where the gut pile is. I assume if it did go on the neighbors, they were smart enough to drag it back before they gutted it. But then why the DNR issue with the knives. Finally, I think the DNR is trying to "make their case" any way they can. Hope is is all legit, but no pics when they supposedly found it in the late morning is really suspicious. Plus as other said, he does not interview well - kind of acts like a know it all.
@GaryGunna232310 ай бұрын
These poaching accusations must be an Ohio/Southern thing because there’s people killing monsters in WI every year and I don’t think I have heard that accusation thrown out but 1 time. Accusation was about a game farm actually not even about poaching. What happens when “ole Dan the man” 68 year old bow hunter goes out and smokes a 200” deer and his son posts a kill pic at night? People going to assume and accuse him of poaching it? Some people don’t do camera equipment lol
@brothercory200510 ай бұрын
As I listened to this whole interview I put myself in the circumstance of shooting a monster buck, I have absolutely no idea how I would react. I’m not a guy who has to post my life on social media nor do I care to have 100 pictures of me with a deer. I just want to get that mount on the wall so I can replay that story every time I see it. Money and position has an unfair advantage and I hope absolute truth comes out, not just assumptions. You need concrete evidence to give a guilty verdict.

His fiancé replied to me immediately about my question. My point. There’s no way this dude would have posted that picture and done what he did if it was illegal. Unless he knows his story is full proof. But I believe him. 10 miles or 12 is nothing for a deer to travel. I’ve literally seen deer run 2 miles in 15 minutes while making drives.
