The attorney is trying to make a zealous defense of his client. You can make a technically correct argument for the wrong client. He didn’t lay out an alternative such as mental health treatment. Not having an opinion on competency was a nail in his competency coffin.

David Marvin finally shows up to court, and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. I think 3B will function better if he just stays home until Ms. Davis takes office. The PD was wrong as a matter of law, but zealously advocating for his client. Marvin was just a horse's behind.

Can someone help me with this? It appears that top brass from both the public defenders office and the state /prosecution are in the court for this matter. That seems unusual to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than one PD appear with a defendant. Am I missing something? Is this woman or case significant for some reason? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment or thoughts.

Doing some guesswork on this based on the discussion in court, but it seems like she had just pled to a felony yet was not in custody. A few days after her plea she allegedly jumped on someone's back, broke the victim's collarbone, and was shouting racial epithets. To the prosecutors credit he showed up to make sure she did not get bond. That's why he was there. Now of course he made the judge mad in the process but at least he showed up. Have no idea why the defense was even making the argument they were making. If they are acting in the best interest of the client they would have been pushing for mental health instead of release.

One of my duties as a student social worker was to collect CMH clients at 7pm and get them into the shelter. I always hoped they’d be at the warming kiosks or McDonalds. Kalamazoo was good at helping the mentally ill.

I agree that there needs to be an increased presence of social workers/mental health providers at incarceration centers and I feel for her situation but she assaulted someone quite violently on a felony bond & it wouldn't be just for her to avoid charges altogether. It is a balance!

So mentally ill people are in jail and they put them in a cell alone and I have personally seen the injuries they inflict on themselves. Jail staff is not able to handle them humanely 😢It’s not something they are able to cope with.The system also has a growing list of medicines that they will not give. Insanity
