This song is the climax of their Scenes From a Memory album. It's an album that is about a single story. Jordan Rudess is a classically trained pianist. He started playing as a young kid and became recognized back then starring in a commercial for Band-aid. He started going to Juilliard school of music at the age of 9. He ended up falling in love with prog music and joined his professor's prog band. Years later down the road after various small gigs and his first solo album, he received two offers to join some pretty popular bands. Those bands were Dixie Dregs and Dream Theater. He them decided to join Dixie Dregs and played with them for a while because he had a young family and didn't want to tour heavily to be with his family. Years down the road he ended up being on the same tour as Dream Theater, and they ended up convincing Rudess to join the band. His first album with the band being Scenes From a Memory (the album this song is from). This song was created mostly by Jordan as he was trying to please his new band 😂. He ended up helping to create one of the most technical songs in the world. Not only is his technical ability outstanding, he has the ability to make songs have a better painted atmosphere. People are often taken back when they watch Dream Theater for the first time (at least before Internet became mainstream) they would think that solo they just heard was a guitar, but it was a keyboard. Jordan used to have a massive rig at his shows. He has a very creative mind and can play every instrument very well. You should watch him play Octavarium live. The song is quite long, but by the end of it, you will feel like as if only a few minutes go by. This song is about their own influences in music and being stuck within the limits of the science of sound itself. Also, it ends a run of albums that are tied to each other by way of beginning where the last song ended. It started with Scenes From a Memory album, and after several albums, ended with this song. Dream Theater has a lot of Easter eggs and you discover something new every time you listen.

I also want to add that I think you would love to check out Animals as Leaders. The lead guitarist and founder of the band, Tosin Abasi is an African American and was directly influenced by John Petrucci. He's also an amazingly gifted guitarist.

Beautiful story... thank you so much for typing all this out. So happy to see him get what he deserves! I've heard a little bit of Octavarium a long time ago.... but never tried to play it and definitely need to listen again since I understand Dream Theater better now. Thank you so much man. You are a legend 🤘🎸💙

@CrazyAwesome it starts off slow, but the entire thing is a masterpiece. The intro is all Jordan Rudess on various instruments. I love watching people find new music.

The keyboardist is Jordan Rudess, and dude went to Juilliard for piano. Most of the other guys who founded the band went to the Berklee college of music. This is what happens when a bunch of classically- and jazz- trained guys decide to form a metal band.

Yeah, makes sense 🤣 this is absolute madness.

I'm not surprised that a first time playthrough of this song was difficult. This song is extremely technical and requires an immense amount of practice and concentration (as you saw with the live performance). Also, I imagine this song may not translate 100% well into Rocksmith because it's played on a 7-string guitar, which might have made the mapping a little different than how Petrucci would actually play it live.
@CrazyAwesome19 күн бұрын
Yeah.... it was insane. Oh really? Didn't realize that he played it on a seven string!!! That's really cool - but yeah that makes sense. Thanks for watching buddy!

@@CrazyAwesomeanimals as leaders is like dream theater on steroids, when I listen to AAL and then I go back to DT, some DT songs sound like Iron Maiden / Metallica easy lol not even joking, the newest the album the more technical.

@CrazyAwesome tosin abasi is the lead guitarist, he is classically trained and he took the time to learn unique styles of playing. Anything by them will blow your mind, even the stuff they play in 4/4 sounds out of time lol

Brother i know you are new this kind of things, but you need to buy a new camera. Just a friendly advice. Love from Turkey.

I'm definitely aware, but right now I'm focusing on making good content and well a camera costs a lot of money. So right now I'm saving up and waiting to buy a few things till the holiday season/Black Friday so it'll be cheaper. I appreciate the love!

Too bad you are reacting to the lower quality version of this song. The best version will always have Mike Portnoy in it.
