Here is a how to on changing the oil in a Makita BHX2500 4-Stroke handheld leaf blower. Very simple and painless. 2.7oz of 10w30 every 50 hours is all you need. I have had very good luck with these mini 4 strokes from Honda and Subaru and will continue getting equipment with them.

Before draining oil, you should have warmed up the engine. Makes it flow easier.

Been using mine for eight years commercially and no issues at all! It's sat in my shed since last year with the same fuel in it but decided to give it blast this week, started second pull & runs Happy as Larry! I do love buying new tools, so been using a Husqvarna 525BX lately, I also have a Makita backpack as a backup with a Husky 580bts as the go to beast!!

If you oil is that black, drain it, add more oil and run it until warm and drain again. Then final fill it

For peak performance, learn to adjust the valve lash. The gap on a cold engine is 0.04” intake valve and 0.06” exhaust valve. I adjust mine each year before Leaf season. These are great blowers. Quiet, clean, reliable. I also recommend the flat blower attachment. Works much better than the round volute.

Funny, I thought just the opposite of the flat nozzle. I bought it on Amazon and tried it once and took it off. It reduces the air flow without much improvement in control. Money wasted for me. Otherwise, this little motor is pretty amazing.

I bought this blower the other day. I bet its a quality product but man it's heavy. Much heavier then any 2 stroke Husqvarna or Stihl. I bought this one cause the store had a sale on Makita blowers and I thought it doesn't matter from which company I buy a blower, just as long as its the brand name. And since Makita was 100$ cheaper then Stihl BG56 or Husqvarna (whatever the model, I don't know) I said to myself, buy this baby. People will say "You're a pussy, you can't hold a f.... leaf blower". I say try it out for a half an hour and then tell me. I didn't want the backpack blower cause it takes to much valuable space in my garage and in my vehicle that I use for my landscaping. I sure hope I'll get used to its weight.

I have had the Makita BHX2500 for a few years now and never really noticed how heavy it was. Thought it was normal weight since i was coming from an electric blower. Then I tried my friends STIHL BG56, I was shocked how light it was lol.

I tried filling to that shelf mark, and it seemed like too much oil was going in, so I stopped before that shelf mark turned it upright on a level surface and an ounce or more dripped out before it stopped dripping. I then checked my oil and it was full filling up to the 3rd hole. I didnt see where it said in the owners manual to fill up to the shelf mark?

Oil change every 10 ten hours, not 50. It doesn't have an oil filter. Warm up engine before oil change. Got the oil level right though. When using any small engine always run the gasoline out... best way to save your carb from getting gunked up. Gasoline over 5 weeks old is considered stale... use fresh always.

No, change the oil every 50 and check every 10. Clearly stated in the GX25 Workshop Manual.

Best to use non-ethanol gasoline if possible... if can't then run out the engine till empty...every single time.

Nice video, thank you for posting. I just recieved this blower as a gift and I have a couple of concerns. When I removed the oil cap, I noticed that there was oil covering the dipstick, all three holes were filled with oil. I tipped the unit upside down and shook it trying to see if I could get any oil to drip out but there was none. I also notice oil in the threads where the cap screws onto the oil tank. Did your's seem to have remnants of oil. I would assume for engine testing but I also fear it could be a returned unit. Then I add non ethanol regular gas I bought at my gas station. And I forgot to move the choke down after starting it the first time and the blower died after about 30 seconds of idling. Then i couldn't start the blower using the recommended procedure and it finally started after holding the throttle in all the way and cranking it. This worked for a few minutes until I notice a strange burning smell like metal or chemical smell. I shut the motor off and saw white smoke coming from exhause and around that ventilated area for a good 10 seconds after the motor was off. Should I return it?

Why return!!?? Run the engine 5min before draining the oil. The capacity is 80ml of oil. That's all!

@@adambaseball3000 - I'm glad to hear that! Use zrod 10w30 or Redline 10w30. These small engines perform much cleaner and better with this. Also at 95 fahrenheit outside you can use the blower wide open all day long. Enjoy.

Hi, you know how long you can use the blower safely so it doesn't overheat? The 2-stroke engine says in the manual that it can be used for a maximum of 30 min. and let it cool for more than an hour before using it again. but in the makita owner's manual he doesn't mention any of that. I just bought a Makita bhx2500
