The problem is that as a non-American... you can't just make a club... and clubs don't have captains... we don't have such an extra-curricular centric educational system.

this is exactly the opportunity for you to take the initiative and make one yourself. All you need are a group of friends or peers with similar interests and a signed documentation from a class teacher or principal. Hold some weekly and monthly meetings and make use of the time to work for an initiative.

In india in my school we don't get encouraged to participate in any honors and so I have zero honors. Does that affect my application even though I have a national recognition for one of my EC's and also being a professional badminton player who's played nationals and also doing an ongoing research paper ?

Medusa, what if someone has those extracurriculars in their bag but the honors aren't that prestigious, maybe they are institutional or sometimes totally not because of insufficient time to excel to the level of getting honors & awards?

hey, I am replying to it for I saw this comment, yygs summer program is actually very good it's competitive and it also provides scholarships. If you get in you can really consider yourself lucky. I know somebody who got in with 100% scholarships.

Hey, so since you mentioned IIT Bombay, I assume you're indian and have done your education till 12th grade in India. I just wanted to ask you a couple questions : 1) What's the name of the book you wrote? 2) You mentioned a gov registered club, was that introduced to you by your school or did you find it on your own? What was it and how do you get into it? 3) Lastly, what was the name of your high school? It sounds like it has more facilities that the average Indian school. Ps: sorry if it's a lot 😂 but it's not very common for an indian student to have focused on extracurriculars like you and this ends up being a disadvantage when applying to foreign universities. So I just wanted to know how you went about it and managing everything. Thanks in advance.
