You can take the tops of the clear bulbs off and put a small amount of liquid paint in them, swirl the paint around and then drain the excess out by placing the bulbs upside down in egg cartons. Once dry replace the tops. You can make any color you want that way and the paint won't get scratched.

I just discovered in earnest that I could make my own ornaments this year via Pinterest, and I went crazy. It was sooo much fun. I used a piece of craft foam, some dowel rods when I was hand painting mine, and it worked out really well. Also since I hated the cap color being silver, I used "rub and buff" which comes in like gold, antique gold, bronze, etc. and it gave it the more antique-y look I wanted. Highly recommend.

The US has a candy called Dots. Gumdrops n jube jubes are similar type of candy in same shape. Canada does jube jubes. In fact, i remember going down to see my brother in the States and my oldest brother brought a frozen yogurt container almost full of them which were left behind. I was in Hobby lobby this evening with my kids and I was talking about how you love going to Hobby lobby and you would use half of these things for the trees that you are doing.
