Gripen NG (Sukhoi Su-35 Hunter Killer) Saab JAS 39

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen (Griffin) is a lightweight single-engine multirole fighter manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. It was designed to replace the Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire technology. It is powered by the Volvo-Flygmotor RM12 engine, a derivative of the General Electric F404, and has a top speed of Mach 2.

Truth about the JAS 39 is that it actually posses a great array of electronics, but unfortunately for it, the air frame performs very a poorly. More ever, the Su-35 can out perform the JAS-39 and has roughly an equal avionics and in the case of the radar superior. Until true 5 Gen fighters are brought forth there is basically no massive advantage, including the Su-50, which was recently relieved to have a horrible stealth signature. So till then, dream on little GRIPEN, dream on.

As in its a pig. Unlike other modern fighters, its air frame is not on par with some contemporary fighters of its generation, ie the F-16. The title, Su-35 killer, is pure clickbait, the truth is that the Gripen has some nice avionics, yet has a horrible air frame. I can go much further into detail in order to elaborate, but I highly suggest reading on other contemporary aircraft before proceeding and asking me to give you a clear picture on what I mean by, "its air frame performs very poorly".

SU-35 is a more agile plane then the Gripen, sure the Gripen is smaller and that makes up for some of that but still the SU-35 has been proven in mock combat to be the king in dog fighting. Both the Gripen and the SU-35 have good radars so they would likely see each other at roughly the same time, don't be fooled by the size of the jet in determining how soon it would be spotted. Finally weapon loadout: The Russians have better missiles right now versus the NATO ones. The meteor is only going to serve as an equalizer.

Great plane but your comparing it to the most maneuverable military aircraft currently in service (Su35). Design and structure wise they are almost the same. The Su35 has more powerful engines but a slower acceleration from the y axis. In a dog fight like 3 mins an Su35 would definitely win considering it has manual controlled missiles as well. wait oh so Gripen has flares but the Russian Su35 doesn't umm i've seen one in real life and know a person who flies one and thats stupid, Yes they have larger radar but Su35's have the best SR missiles and best LR missiles. A single engine, lightweight, low payload, low budget, multirole jet compared to and being supposedly superior to a twin engine, vector thrust, purebred air to air fighter? Right sure.... Gosh and they just had to pick the Su-35 from all the alternatives too lol. Look I like the Gripen it is a good multiroler. Good for short quick self defense of small nations until the big boys from NATO can roll in the Raptors, Eurofighters and other war eagles but that is about it. At the NATO combat battles here in the USA, the Gripen fighters were able to down 7 of our best fighter pilots in F-16's and F-15's. The Gripen is a wonderful plane but to say it can be a Sukhol 35 Hunter-Killer is making a big statement and I do not think the Gripen can live up to that claim. I wish it could.

ShinyHagge Hello. You are correct; the American pilots were very surprised at the performance of the Gripen and their pilots. Now about Russia. We were shocked when we found out that the SU-30 was a better plane than our planes. Only our F-22 is able to fight against an SU-30. Then the Russians scared the crap out of us when they came out with the SU-35. The SU-35 is said to be better than the SU-30. The Russians have better fighters than we do and I fear that they will win most battles against any other plane the world has to offer. I hope the Gripen is a Sukhoi killer. That would make this American very happy. The Gripen will only get better because they are now partners with Brazil and have the brain power of Brazilian engineers to help then. I have become a fan of the Gripen and I am going to hang some pictures of it in my work shop at my house. Hopefully we will see some SU-35's at the Red Flag games and this time the Gripen can shoot down SU-35's instead of shooting down all of the American planes.!!

ShinyHagge F-16 is now quite a old plane and even if you modernise it, it will not be better to the latest Mig-29. In training exercises between America and Russia Air forces. The Red team(Russia) beat the Americans in a series of dogfights and because of that the Americans have never went to such exercises with the Russians.

This match up would depend on pilot training and skill. No way a gripen could out maneuver an su-35 . Then the countermeasures deployment would easily fool a radar guided missile. Just what the hell did I watch here? First off, the JAS-39 is an inferior aircraft compared to the Su-35. The JAS-39 may be more capable than the Su-27 and possibly even the Su-30, but not the Su-35. Secondly, why do more than half the voices in this clip have North American accents, and why are they speaking English to begin with (as opposed to Swedish)? And finally, what so-called "unarmed country" are they pretending to protect here? Is Sweden an "unarmed country?" This is some kind of a marketing video (and not that well done either) from SAAB (company that makes the Gripen aircraft) to English-speaking countries (namely the U.S. which is why the actors have N. American accents) to try and sell that this aircraft can take on the best of the Russian-made fighters. But in reality, that is simply not the case.

Firstly, the Gripen has even "shot down" a F22 in a training exercise. So.. Unless you figure that the Su-35 is better than a F22, yes, they can spank their little behinds so hard that they with they died as babies. Secondly, English is the formal language in combat now since SAF has adopted to NATO standard. Thirdly, as ugly as is might be (the American English) it's unfortunately the most common accent picked up from all the crap TV that comes out of Fuglywood. It makes me puke to hear it. However, that doesn't mean that under IDEAL situations that either the F-16 or the JAS-39 is more capable than the F-22. That's because the F-22 is specifically designed to be a first detect, first fire, first kill, air superiority aircraft. As with the JAS-39 going against the Su-35, in some specifications the Super Flanker has an edge, while in other categories, the Gripen has the advantage (primarily in avionics). But as for sheer power, performance, ceiling clearance, etc. the Su-35 dominates. Who would win in a fight would depend on the actual scenario, and the pilots' skills would also come into play in a dogfight situation.

I'm not really sure how many of these are true, or how many are exaggerated. But whatever the case may be, in a real life scenario, the JAS-39 as well as other aircraft will not even be able to detect the F-22, while the F-22 will already have locked-on to them and launched an AM-RAAM missle that will shoot the opposing aircraft out of the sky. Remember, the F-22 is designed to be an air-superiority fighter, and until newer aircraft with better radar, better avionics, and more advanced technologies come around, the F-22 will continue to dominate in this regard. Now in regards to the JAS-39 going up against the Su-35, what you seem to be forgetting here my friend, is that THIS VIDEO (although it is simply for marketing purposes) explicitly shows a JAS-39 engaging a Su-35 at close range, and that is why I bring up the dogfight scenario, in which a Su-35 can in fact win against the JAS-39. . Finally, the F-22, while expensive, doesn't have the price tag of "10 Gripens." According to Wikipedia, the JAS-39 has a unit cost of just under $69 million (which by the way is twice as much as the Su-35), whereas the F-22 costs $150 million each. So the cost ratio is about 2.2 to 1, not 10 to 1. Well worth it, given that the F-22 can engage and fire upon multiple JAS-39s before they can even detect the Raptor!

Looked at some data, Gripen NG is slower 2 mach vs Su-35 Mach 2.25, its wings are smaller meaning less gripen on air LOL, meaning larger turn radius, Max take of weight on Gripen NG 16,500 kg vs Su-35 34,500kg, meaning less fire power. Radar for NG is not rvealed but it cant be to advanced as it is just an upgrade so max about 200 to 250 km meanwhile in Russia Su-35 gets 400km. Not seeing anything amazing yet! anyone care to share info?

You are compaering the old Gripen, not the NG. Mach 2 was with the 80 kn Engine, the NG have 105 kn.The wings are smaller because the plane is smaller, meaning less turn radius. fire Power is enough (7-8000 kg). Radar system is new ASEA multirole radar (max range 650 km). This is semi-official information, not all is revealed.

As we've seen time and time again, Russia is not a reliable business partner. When they feel like it they will turn off the gas or pretend that existing contracts are invalid. Fighter jets are hugely expensive, they require regular upgrades and maintenance support from the manufacturer, and Russian manufacturers cannot be relied upon to provide that.

This is Su35ans best advantage. 1 Extreme range 2 Powerful EWS that can jam the monostatic radar is relatively easy (there are plenty of tutorials on this) 3 Very good handling qualities (more on that below) 4 Large radar, thus the largest of any fighter in the world with the highest KW rating. 5 fairly good armament (right bit for the size, in general, in line with its competitors) This is Gripen's advantages. 1 Extremely low maintenance requirements, especially compared to Su35 2 Extreme maneuverability (primarily relating to energy conservation) 3 World today's most advanced data link (the shared location with F22 and F35) 4 Incredibly good EWS and countermeasure systems (BOL / BOP's become standard in Finland, parts of the UK, Luftwaffe and others even though they do not have the Gripen itself) 5 Better weapons. So, what does this mean? Well, it means that the Gripen in the initial stage has Meteor and thus has the Gripen a clear superiority in BVR (assuming it is a reality). However, Su30 demonstrating against F15C that in principle they are impossible to get radar lock-on (actually completely impossible) so I'm a little hesitant to radar-based BVR missiles will actually be able to find all the way. This applies both paths. As for stealth characteristics as the Gripen also an advantage, what this means is simply that the Gripen fighter pilots will have first crack at deciding when and from where they enter the fight. Most likely, then grapples initiative which is the alpha and omega of all combat. This advantage will also F35 having the same purpose.

Gripen will outmaneuver Su-35 at any altitude with higher speed. This is because Gripen NG has extremely unstable flight design - just like Typhoon and F-22. F-22 can turn inside of Su-30/35 at 20+ degrees with more than 300 knots at speed above 500 knots. Thats why the aircraft is bloody damn expensive. Su-35 or 30 with TVC has close enough AoA but they lose energy - and the optimal recovery time is 3 time longer than that of F-16.
