Adam, please don’t listen to the folks who criticise you. This is a fantastic symbiotic relationship with CRC, your credibility when endorsing products is considered to be really credible as folks know in the community you would NEVER endorse a dodgy product. Yes other products are available and that is great. However, I really trust your judgement. CRC have found a great partner here. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.

Another product is dark molasses, the cheap kind used by hunter to bait deer. I mix it one cup to every gallon of water. You won't be disappointed, if your taking rust from wrenches that have been zinc coated just check on them but cast parts just let them soak. The molasses will not remove the black hardened marks on tools that have been heat treated and hardened.

Found an old very large Chanellock slip joint plier (I think the largest they make). Would never have bought because usually don't ever need anything that big but for free it was a good deal. Problem was, the slip joints were "welded" shut with rust. After cleaning as best I could, about 24 hours in Evapo Rust and they were free. After clean up, I just sprayed and wiped with WD40. Got a bunch of other badly rusted US made tools including smaller Channellocks from same source and applied same treatment. Highly recommend Evapo Rust. And it is reusable! Nice succinct video.

It seems Evaporust is ridiculously expensive ($55 per gallon on Amazon) and over rated. Ospho is much less costly, $20 per gallon or less and works better and faster. When living on the Gulf Coast, I bought a 500 gallon gas tank for my boats. The tank was totally rusted. I brushed off the loose rust, sprayed it with Ospho (took about 1/2 gallon) in the morning. That afternoon I spray painted the tank and frame with Rustoleum paint. After 5 years while only 20 feet from saltwater the tank was still perfect...not a spec of rust anywhere. The whole process cost me under $30. Ospho works great, been using it on everything that rust for nearly 25 years now.

I absolutely love evaporust! It's the best rust remover I've ever tried. I restore vintage motorcycles and it's made the process so much easier. Especially cleaning the inside of gas tanks. I used to put nuts and bolts in and shake them for hours with a toxic mix of chemicals. Now I just fill it up with evaporust and let it sit for a day and they look like new. Best part is its reusable. I didn't know it comes in a 5 gallon bucket. I'm going to have to try and find one. Thanks crc!!👍

Rust Block: what is it? Is it a film or does it react with the surface perhaps making a phosphate or depositing zinc? While EoR does not touch the metal, it leaves the surface rather reactive perhaps leaching out beneficial oxides which keep the surface from rusting when put on a shelf. After doing some transmission gears, they flashed to a light golden soon after dried off.

Good job mate, I have found that doing smaller pieces using evaporust. It works much quicker and arguably better If you heat it up in the microwave to sort of about 60° C and it will clean up parts in an hour or two instead of overnight works much better when it’s hot. Maybe give it a try. All the best from Melbourne Australia

I wonder how well this would work on firearms. I have some firearms that were brought to me for cleaning that the owner had left in her garage for several months. Some have extensive surface rusting almost to the point of pitting. Was considering electrolysis, but have been advised by some gunsmiths that there can be issues of weaking the metal by using this method of rust removal.

Some situations not covered that I have run into: 1. Isn't there an instruction/condition/recommendation to avoid contact with air? Obviously that tank doesn't respect that instruction. 2. How do you tell when the solution is spent? The volume does have a service life, correct? A finite amount of reaction it can effect? 3. And how about technique for larger objects for us folks who can't justify over $1000 of solution and 25 sq.ft. of workspace to house a vat like in the video? For instance, I had a Weber grill where that bottom bolt holding the vent fins to the handle was fused with rust making normal rotation impossible. Any suggestions (towels, sponges) of how to work the product on a section of a large object? 4. "Discoloration"-- Everthing seems to come out with, what to me, appears to be a unique flat black patina, not the look of steel I am used to. Am I wrong? Future video ideas? I have been pretty happy with the product. I expect my next purchase will be the 3 gallon size (though the recent 25% price increase on Amazon sucks). But I want to get more out my usage.....

It will depend on the metal. High carbon parts should not be soaked longer than necessary, as most likely the metal will darken in colour. The darkening does not have an adverse affect on the metal. It merely represents the movement of carbon from the interior of the metal to the exterior of the metal. If you have any detailed questions, please don't hesitate to contact techservice@crcind.com
