This episode was pure pain to get going. I edited it on my phone and it took 3x longer than a normal video to process. Please consider subscribing to help ease my suffering.
Today I am checking out the Halot Mage Pro. A Resin printer from Creality with a lot going for it. I really appreciated the convenience features on this printer, because it meant I didn't have to handle the resin as much. The flip lid and the resin pump are awesome additions that just makes printing more fun. I hope to learn more about resin 3D printing in the future, and want to give a huge thanks to Creality for providing this printer for review.

Great Vid, also new to 3d printing with my first resin printer being the Creality LD-002H. Much smaller than the Halot but Ive been using water washable resins. Post processing much easier. I also set mine to print at 0,1 layer heights at 2 sec exposure which drastically reduces print times compared to 0,05 and level of detail still awesome. Things like your name tags you should be able to print flat with zero supports. Add a 0,5mm raft at 0,1 layer height and cure 5 layers +- 40 seconds, by doing so the raft is your sacrificial burn in layers, so when the print is done due to the much higher exposure settings you should be able to peel the raft away from your actual print leaving a perfectly smooth surface on your tag.

Lol it’s just comical at some point. At least the coupler was loose enough to not permanently damage anything. When I read “go to zero” I interpret that as “go to the 0 coordinate”, or Z=0. So I’m like, I’ll take the other one. Guess that was wrong??? A firmware update should fix this, hopefully they will be proactive about it. I didn’t update firmware before starting the review. Prints turned out fine in any case. It’s my first resin print and overall it was a good experience. Good resolution, nice feature set, needs polish though, to improve user experience.

The rule for Resin is: If you can smell it, you're doing it wrong. Never get this stuff on your skin, as it can hyper-sensitize your immune system and is generally VERY bad in its liquid form. In its solid form, it's inert and safe but seriously watch out for your health here. The effects of resin hypersensitivity are non-reversible. Ask me how I know... You want a respirator with filters rated for VOCs if you don't have massively adequate room ventilation. Nitrile gloves only. Do NOT use Latex. Latex gloves will allow the resin to penetrate through them.

I have some great respirators. I feel like every resin video should come with a disclaimer about the safety hazard it presents. People should not be getting into this casually.

I bought a resin printer a few years ago and the smell was disgusting, I used my respirator after my resin odor experience but I still hated all the clean up especially the supports and sanding the break off point down, I only ever use it if I need to.

If I run low on space I’ll probably just pack up the resin gear and get rid of it. It’s nice being about to get such detailed parts, but at what cost?

@@NathanBuildsRobots Im in the same boat, I hardly ever use my resin machine, however, there are occaisions when I need some high res parts that an FDM would take a lifetime to print so the resin printer is the one to go for, I use the ABS like resin for part strength, its at times like this that I am glad I did not get rid of it. I keep it all on a tray and stored below my workbench and keep covered to keep any dust off it all.

You're the first content creator on KZbin I've seen who I feel has portrayed the process of resin printing accurately. I originally got into 3D printing 13 years ago to print miniatures, and was immediately disappointed. When resin printers became affordable, I jumped at the chance to own one, but in the end I never liked it. Yes, it could print miniatures perfectly, but the mess and side effects were just unacceptable. These machines are *scary* if you're taking them seriously. The resin is toxic waste, and it's impossible to keep from getting everywhere. 24/7 super ventilation isn't feasible if you live somewhere it's very hot or very cold, unless you locate it in a dedicated sealed room and install an HRV for ventilation. Getting it on your skin is really bad, and your clothes will get contaminated. You'll try but you won't be able to keep it from happening. The machine really needs to be treated like a tiny personal factory IMO, with appropriate hazmat precautions. Now everyone can experience what real factory owners cope with: the temptation to throw safety to the wind in the name of simplicity and lower costs! One day it will probably be illegal to run one of these machines in a house with children, or dump its waste products down the drain. I just got rid of my resin printer and I'm planning to go back to FDM.

The resin heads make so many excuses for the process being far frowned m something you’d want in a residential setting. It’s more like an industrial process filled with messes, smells, and safety hazards. This type of thing, along with unenclosed laser engravers powerful enough to cause permanent eye damage, really shouldn’t be available to anyone with a credit card and an Amazon account

I just got that printer's little brother. (They were super cheap at microcenter.) As always, your blazing the trail has save me so much hassle. Dealing with the chemicals isn't quite so much of a deal breaker with our setup, because my wife already uses two-part resin for her projects.

I've heard you can recycle the alcohol by leaving it in the sun for a while and filtering the resin particles.
@NathanBuildsRobots
@NathanBuildsRobots Жыл бұрын
That is true but some of the alcohol is consumed every time you use it, and eventually it will absorb moisture from the air to the point that it needs to be distilled or blended with fresh alcohol. But it is definitely batter to cure and reuse the alcohol as much as possible.

i totally agree that is a huge oversight on their part for this. lucky he only had the coupling come off.. others have smashed screens. Also that cure station spins waaay too fast. needs to be like 3 notches slower. i dont know why they did this... huge design flaw.. id hope they fix it in firmware to slow it WAY down on the printer at least.

I think you should mention in a future video another aspect of resin printing: it's extremely cheap to get very high quality prints by ordering online, like jlcpcb which I tried out of curiosity. I got small parts at 1 dollar each plus shipment: no resin cleaning, no alcohol, no waste disposal, no support removal, ... Creality, which seems to be providing some printers to you (I don't know if you are sponsored or not, it doesn't matter) won't like it, but while FDM at home makes sense also for small volumes, at home resin printing is likely something for people printing a lot. Also... do you trust people to properly dispose of resin, alcohol and so on? I don't, I fear someone will throw stuff down the drain.
@sierraecho884
@sierraecho884 Жыл бұрын
You are so right. This is a huge mess for the environment, people will simply flush it down the drain. It´s super toxic, I bet my ass most people printing with resin do not have adequate ventilation. Cleaning is a huge pain in the ass. I would like to resin print soo soo much but I can´t vent the fumes outside even though I have a nice big office.
