The effect this had on me as a 13 year old living in Sth Australia in the 80s was unbelievable. It was one of the musical awakenings that changed my eyes and ears forever

Thanks for the music, and RIP Ginger. Seeing this on TV as a kid changed my musical world, in the best of ways ...

Still blows my mind everytime I watch this. Jack is a real maestro himself yet he's selflessly holding down the structure of Sunshine so Eric can go off piste and deliver absolute genius guitars. Ginger sits somewhere in the middle, superbly adapting to the moment by supporting Jack whilst simultaneously fueling Eric with Q and A responses.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned the passing of Ginger Baker. Not a nice person but arguably the greatest drummer ever ☺️

The Three of Them... Was this the farewell performance? They each play/sing with such abandon (Jack Bruce is AGELESS)... Clapton on an ES-335, how cool is that? Bruce changing, operatically, his vocal phrasing... Baker, playing with a precise abandonment worthy of Elvin Jones. And, with maturity, and the taste and control that maturity bestows, they did it again, in the very same venue, 37 years later: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKrJpZSXrpKjfKM The Beatles aside (as they are not only in a category of their own, they CREATED the category), Cream may be (and to my taste, they are) the Greatest Rock Band of All Time.
@terry79073 жыл бұрын
Not for me. Baker and Clapton may very well be equal to Page and Bonham, but no way Bruce equals Plant AND Jones.
@tuxguys3 жыл бұрын
@@terry7907 Other than the fact Bruce sang better than Plant, and played bass better than Jones, and did both at once, I suppose you're right...

I paid 10 shillings (about half a dollar at that time) for a ticket to the first show that evening. Third row from the front opposite Clapton. Still have the ticket stub. Never was the same..it was that good ! + Rory Gallagher (Taste) & Yes were both on before they came on stage. Those were the days.
@arminiushermann094 жыл бұрын
I guess some people Wil never be able to use their ears to understand why Ginger is the greatest drummer ever. I knew long before for arguments of John Bonham an Keith moon or Buddy Rich an his noisy drums solos an making it look like he was hitting more drums then he was just because of his hand movements I used my ears an they told me Ginger was a Genius on drums alone then add in what he did with his drumming to compliment the other members.

Jack Bruce was always considered a busy bassist by Ginger Baker, but the gaps he leaves during the solo are brilliant.

I don't get why Ginger was so opinionated/ prickly towards other musicians, especially Jack. Jack was a superb bassist with impeccable timing.

Titled “iconic” for those that came after: this particular rendition of the song sounds shit. Bruce seems consumed with the attention Clapton was getting and went off script, and not in the cool jazz way - he just went off. Baker, having lost his rhythm partner, bails on the song, too.They left Clapton hanging, and young Eric sheepishly says thank you to the crowd before all three exit and disband.
