I live in Western kentucky in the US and its pretty much dead zone around here from what I know my first node in in post on its way to me now but i know some larger cities about 1-2 hour drives from me have some nodes on the online map but i plan to setup some nodes around my town and maybe help bridge the mesh to maybe get connection to some more active meshes or maybe even try building my own local community around the nodes i put up

Any chance of creating a video of how to setup an mqtt service to link two separate clusters that are out of range of each other. This way the mqtt wouldn't be the standard service and flood the network

That's a Great idea! I worked on controls engineering with scada, PLC and iot and built a mobile app to link various networks and it works! It should work also with LoRa with same underlying principles 😊

Yeah, I mean the point of this was kinda testing in the worse case scenario. Most users will have better antennas so if 'this' setup works then others will get a good service in the town.

868 for Europe. 915 for 'murica (note, the ardware for 868 and 915 is the same, besides antenna). 443 is global amost, but it requires a radio amateur license. 868/915 are unlicensed and where you can find peoples.

But also- could it not be cool to have a ustility that could connect to something like iMessage or WhatsApp in a location where internet is available and forward the messages over meshtastic to where data isn’t available?

I do not think many people associate 'SMS' with a protocol as such but more of just some kind of text message service. What we are trying to do here is to go for the intrigue with the thumbnail and title and then show meshtastic in a positive way. 😁

@@andykirby You're not allowed to use an antenna with such gain, even if your EIRP is at or below the legal limit. The "gain" you are allowed to have is exactly the delta between ERP and EIRP, that is to say around 2db. Not that i care, in fact, encourage this wholeheartedly, but maybe don't post it on youtube? Just don't mention the antenna gain. PS: Such high gains will easily overload that kind of receiver anyway. I think you might benefit from a band pass filter.
